AI-MEP Delegations Learn Gamelan at UAD
This morning, June 16th 2013, five delegations of Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Programme (AI-MEP)2013 visited Universitas Ahmad Dahlan to study Gamelan, Indonesian traditional musical instrument. The delegations consist of Amna Karra-Hasan, Maha Najjarine, and Ibrahim Abdo from Sydney, Moustapha Sarakibi from Melbourne, and Zayaan Jappie from Canberra. They were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Sarbiran, Ph.D as vice rector IV of UAD, Ida Puspita, M.A as head of International Affairs of UAD, and Normasari S.H.,M.Hum as the alumni of this programme. The five delegations came to UAD accompanied by Mr. Ajar from Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University . This programme was also attended by international muslim students of UAD, such as Ahmed Basyouni from Egypt, Saada B. Omar, Jehanie May A Macasawang, and Norcaisa Goyha Mudsol from Philippine.
The AI-MEP delegations were welcomed by the beautiful sound of Gamelan played by Gendhing Bahana, a Gamelan group of UAD. After the welcome speech from vice rector IV of UAD and the speech from UAD alumni of this programme, Amna Karra-Hasan introduced the other delegations and delivered a speech. She said she was really happy to be here (in Indonesia). As a muslim that is still minority in Australia, Indonesia makes her feel like home. After speech agenda, all delegations came to stage to learn Gamelan with Gending Bahana. They really enjoyed that moment. Each of delegations learned more than one instrument of Gamelan. After 45 minutes learning, they collaborated with Gendhing Bahana to play one of Javanese songs, Manyar Sewu.
