Internship Program of USANT’s Students in UAD 2017

Internship is one of the most active students’ program between Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) and University of Saint Anthony (USANT) Philippines. This yearly event has been conducted for two times and the number of participant rapidly increased. There are 15 students participated in this event, they come three different programs; eight students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, three students of Faculty of Psychology and four students of communication Faculty of Letters, Culture and Communication. Further, Nelia A. Britanico from Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and William Peter Teddy T. Guyt from Communication Program Faculty of Liberal Art were represented USANT as their supervisors. .

They studied in UAD from 23rd of January to 17th of February 2017. This three weeks intership program consists of some activities. Students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education did sit in the class, had first hand excperience on teaching in some lab schools of UAD and Muhammadiyah Islamic Organizations, seminar in teaching method, discussion on Indonesian education, etc. Students of Psychology did sit in the class, visited some labs, etc. Students of communication studied photography, broadcasting media, editing and visited ADI TV (Local TV station belongs to Muhammadiyah Islamic Organization). Moreover, for the final project students were asked to make a short movie.

Students and supervisors are also given hand on experience of learning Indonesian culture by visiting some historical places such as Borobudur temple, Prambanan temple, hand-made handycraft, Merapi Volcano Mount etc.

To close the event, faculty conducted “The 2nd International Television Broadcasting Competition”. This competition were opened for local students and internship students. There were twelve categories contested, those are best photo, unique photo, best camera person, best journalistic photo, most talented news readers, most talented presenter, best setting and properties, bests scenario, best sound director, best movie editor, best director and best short movie.

UAD Cooperated with TIE-UPS International Proudly Present The First Indian Education Fair in Yogyakarta

Located at Ruang Auditorium 3rd floor of Kampus 1 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), UAD and TIE-UPS International proudly presented the first Indian education fair. It was titled “Incredible India Education Fair”, and it was conducted for three days from 30th January to 1st February 2017.

There were 14 Indian universities participated in this event. In the first day, 30th January 2017, representative of 14 Indian universities met representative (Principals/vice principals/ teachers) from Senior High School. In this great chance, all representatives of Indian universities introduced their universities to the students through their principals. Further, some of them offered scholarship.

In the afternoon, Incredible Education Fair was officially opened by Dr.Kasiyarno, M.Hum. (Rector of UAD), representatives of Indian embassy, and Mr. Ravi Makhija (director of TIE-UPS International). This event was attended by thousands of students of senior high schools and universities in Yogyakarta. Apart from Education Fair, in the same building seminar on Indian universities were also held. In the mini seminar, visitors got deeper information about each university and their offers.

In the second day, representative of Indian universities, TIE-UPS International, Dr. Kasiyarno,M.Hum. (Rector of UAD and the head of Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Yogyakarta), and 35 private universities of Yogyakarta conducted warm meeting then signed MoU. In the afternoon, the exhibition was continued.

“We believe that after signing MoU, all of the private universities directly take an action to realize the signed Mou” said Dr. Kasiyarno, M.Hum.

In the last day, Dr. Kasiyarno,M.Hum. (Rector of UAD) signed Mou with Mr.Ravi Makhija as the director of TIE-UPS International (representative of Indian universities in Indonesia) and three universities, those are Dr. AMBEDKARInstitute of Technology Bengaluru Karnatak, Sathyabama University and Garden City University, India.

Annual Meeting of National Forum of International Office of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education

Located at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo, Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo cooperated with conducted an annual workshop from 9th to 11st December 2016. This workshop is titled ” Developing Global Network Toward International Outreach”. This event was officially opened by the opening speeches delivered by Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (the director of International Office of UAD and the head of National Forum of International Office of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education) and it was attended by the head and staff of international office of all of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Educations.

In this great opportunity, there were some cases delivered such as “Best Practice of International Community Service Program (KKN Internasional) by Ida Puspita, M.A.Res., then, Purwanto Subroto,Ph.D. (Chief of Sub-directory of Inter-Institution Cooperation of DIKTI) as the keynote speaker delivered speech on “qualification of higher education/university ranking in national and international level in 2016”. Further, representative from India’s Government presented “Education India”, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang presented Summer Course Program, etc.

Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. was the moderator of lesson learned session with the tittle “the outbound KKN Internasional by Secretary of Islamic Integrated School Network Thailand (IISN)”. The speaker of this session was Mr. Zaki Roengsamut. He is the coordinator of KKN International between UAD and partner schools in Thailand. His outstanding speech encouraged participants to ask many questions related to KKN Internasional. Further, KKN Internasional between UAD and partner school in Thailand is one of the best International program of UAD.

An annual event of National Forum of International Office of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education was officially closed by speeches those were delivered by Dr.dr. H. Muhammad Isman Jusuf,Sp.S. (Rector of Umiversitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo) and Ida Puspita, M.A.Res.
We wish the best future ahead for all Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Educations.

UAD Holds The 7th International Day

Located at green hall Kampus 1 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta, Dr. Kasiyarno M.Hum. (Rektor of UAD) and Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Director of International Office) officially opened the 7th International Day of UAD. Further, this amazing event was attended by Dr. Abdul Fadlil, M.T. (Vice Rector III), Prof. Sarbiran,Ph.D. (Vice Rector IV), and Faculty members.
There were two main agendas in this great opportunity, and all of them are free in charge!
The first is international food exhibition. This exhibition was started at 9am and finished at 12 am. There were 13 booths from 8 different countries. International students from some universities, many students of UAD, faculty members and staff of UAD eagerly came and tasted the served foods.

“This event is always marvelous, we hardly wait this event” said some visitors.

The second is “UAD Asing Star”. UAD Asing Star is a singing competition, the participants are international students from all of universities in Yogyakarta and Central Java. Some of them sang Indonesian songs and others sang English songs.

From food festival stage, about 500 visitors came to the international food festival of the 7th International Day.
They enthusiastically tasted international flavors , they moved from one booth to others in 13 booths.
In the closing ceremony, all of international students curiously waited the announcement of the food festival winners. The winners were chosen based on the numbers of the visitors in their booth.
The visitors chose team Thailand 2 UAD as the most favorite team, team China UAD as the best team work, team Thailand 1 UAD as the most creative team, and team Malaysia UAD as the best booth. Every year, team Thailand is always granted as one of the winners!
“Decoration of their booth attracts as to visit, taste their food and ask deeper about Thailand”, said some visitors.

From UAD Asing Start singing competition Stage. As all of the performances deeply touch the adjudicators’ hearth, the final round tightly run. Then, finally, the adjudicators decided that the first winner is Randrianary Bodeniraina (international student of UGM from Madagascar), the second winner is Le Phong Vinh (international student of UNY fron Vietnam), the third winner is Li Ji (international student of UAD from China), and the forth winner is Maia B. X. D. Baptista (international student of STTNAS from Timor Leste).
Further, the best participants are given to duet of Mus-ab Buenae Leetha Kaddah (international students of UAD from Thailand and Suraida Salaeh (international student of UGM from Thailand).

“It was quite hard to decide the winners, all of the participants did their best. Finally, we chose Randrianary Bodeniraina as the first winner because she sang from the deepest of her heart and softly touch our feeling.” Said Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (The director of OIA UAD) as one of the adjudicators.

International Students of UAD Win Indonesian Language National Competition

International students of UAD has long history of winning Indonesian Language and Culture National Competition

Located at Unversitas Negeri Solo, Nguyen Thi Thu Thao (a Darmasiswa student of UAD from Vietnam) won the most favorite participant in Indonesian Language Speech Competition in Indonesian Language for Students in International Level Competition. In This great chance, UAD under International Office Affairs sent two students to participate in, they are; Ali Abdulraoof Taha Al-Maktari, an international student from Yemen who has been studying in Chemical Engineering Program since September 2015 and Nguyen Thi Thu Thao (Tina, Indonesian name) is a Darmasiswa student who has been studying in Darmasiswa program since September 2016.

Ali delivered speech on “ Budaya Indonesia di Era Globalisasi: Sebagai Identitas atau Komoditas” and Tina delivered speech on “Bahasa Indonesia Dalam Ruang Publik dan Media Sosial”. Tina was granted as the most favorite participant after competing with 13 Indonesian students and four international students.

Besides that, a month ago, 21 October 2016 located at Universitas Indonesia, team Pembacaan Cerita (Story Telling) of International students of UAD was granted as the winner. the team was consisted of Guo Yaomin, Zheng Huangting, Qian Shan Yu, Tong Qiang and Ren Yu Jie (International students under U to U Program from China).

As widely known, one of the best program for international students in UAD is Indonesian Language and Culture, routinely UAD under International Office Affairs (OIA) sends international students to participate in national competition. Further, international students of UAD has along history of winning Indonesian Language and culture national competition. Tania won the second trophy for UAD this year.

UAD Successfully Conducted International Community Service Program 2016

In 2016, UAD under Office of International affairs had successfully got grants from The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (HIBAH PKKUI). There are two activities those are granted by this funds, first is Workshop and the second is International Community Service Program (Hibah PKKUI).

International Community Service Program (KKNI) was conducted in at Dusun Kowen 2, Timbullharjo,Sewon Bantul Region, DIY on 7^thto 16^th November 2016.

Office of International Affairs of UAD invited the participants from four UAD partner universities in Malaysia, Thailand, and Philippines. Total number of participants were 14 students (11 foreign students and 3 Indonesian students as the buddies). Three of them are from University of Saint Antony (USANT) Philippines, those are Barbie Vargas Layaguin, Glesie V. Alvaro and Yedda Marie Ciron. Two students are from University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) Philippines, those are Karen B. De Alday and Jessica Mae B. Co. Two students are from Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) Thailand, those are Siwakorn Pusila and Sasit Vongrukun. Two students are from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), those are Nurhanidahlia Binti Mohd Hamadi and Nur Syafiqa Binti Malik. Two students are from Ukraine, those are Tetiana Melnyk and Igor Dmytruk (students of UAD under Darmasiswa scholarship) and three Indonesian students (Alfad Nur Ikhsan, Anisa Puspariawan and Suci Febriyani).

The participants were divided in to three groups. There were at least four to five students in one group who stayed with local people to give them hand-on experience living in Indonesia. Besides, each group also conducted routine agendas like teaching in Special Needs School (SLB) Al Maarif Sewon and Kindergarten. Further, the participants were involved in the local youth activities like, learning the handcraft in local communities such as knitting, making tempe, making bamboo stools, visiting horse farms, fish and veal.

To get keen information about Indonesian they were given chances to visit several tourist destinations such as, Prambanan temple, Tembi, Malioboro, etc.

Ida Puspita, M. A. Res. (The Head of OIA) said, “UAD has quite long experiences in conducting International Community Engagement Program such as Community Engagement Program for Darmasiswa program for 3 weeks in Prambanan and Klaten, regular Community Engagement Program which involving foreign students of regular and joint degree 2 + 2 program, as well as International Community Engagement Program which involves students from foreign partner universities. International Community Engagement Program under PKKUI grants 2016 is expected to provide more information to participants especially to see Indonesia from a different side that they have never met in the media and tourism brochures. Further, they can get first-hand experience about how life in Indonesian rural communities as well as learn Indonesian culture directly from the local people. ”

Students of UAD Win Dance Competition in The 1st World Culture 2016 in Nilai University Malaysia

Located at Nilai University Malaysia, 12nd-13rd November 2016, students of English Letters of UAD who have been studying at UiTM under The ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) scholarship program participated in dance competition in The 1st World Culture Festival 2016.

Anggi Nur Rachmasari, Indah Puspitawati and other international students performed Malaysian traditional dance, the dance consists of three different songs and the duration was ten minutes.

In this marvelous opportunity, they were granted as the first runner up and the best choreography. Congratulation!

UAD’s Students Introduce Indonesia Through Culture

Thursday, 20th September 2016, located at Gedung Astaka Universiti Malaysia Pahang, four students of Faculty of Industrial Technology of UAD who have been studying at UMP under Transfer Credit System Program participated in International Open Day (IOD) which was titled “We are the World”. This event was participated by seven countries, those are Sudan, India, Bangladesh, Yemen, German, Nigeria, and Jordan.

This event was divided in to two parts, during the day, participants presented their country by providing any information on the served booths and in the evening, students performed their traditional cultures. In this great opportunities, Rizky Gusti Pratiwi, Hilda Syahidatina Nusa’ibah, Laras Ekananda Fidya Ratri, Latifah Nurul Huda and other Indonesian students under Indonesian Students in Malaysia Association (PPI Malaysia) introduced Indonesian to All of the visitors, in the booth themed “Pesona Indonesia”. They provided information related to 33 provinces of Indonesia, some of Indonesian traditional foods, traditional costumes, etc. Further, they danced Maumere Dance (a traditional dance from West Nusa Tenggara) whereby in the end of the dance, they sang Indonesian anthem. Indonesian team is granted as the third best performance.

Representatives of Guangxi Medical University Visit UAD

Representatives of Guangxi Medical University (GXMU) consist of Zeng Xiaoyun (The head of Office of International Cooperation), Xie Li (The staff of Office of International Cooperation ) and ten students come from three different study programs, five are from The Faculty of Information and Management, two students are from Faculty of Humanistic Management, three students are from Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Basic Pharmacy, and Faculty of Foreign Languages visited UAD.

The representatives of GXMU were scheduled in UAD from 30^th of October to 2^ndof November 2016. Some scheduled agendas in this event are; the first is presentation from keynote speakers, those are Prof. Zeng Xiaoyun (Director of International Cooperation of GXMU), Mrs. Xie Li (Expert of Chinese Traditional Medicine of GXMU) and drg. Asep Rustiawan,M.Si. (A lecturer of Public Health Faculty). After that, some students resented their research, then visited laboratories.

In the first day, representative of both parties discussed about the possible cooperation between UAD and GXMU in the near future, meanwhile the students joined general lectures based on their study program. After that, all of the students and representatives visited all campus of UAD.

UAD and GXMU have quite long history of cooperation, such as The Dean of Faculty of Public Health and The Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy of UAD gave general lectures at GXMU. Besides, GXMU routinely offers full scholarship program to the lecturers of UAD to study there, Joint Seminar, etc.

On the next day, they visited Borobudur temple and traditional market, Malioboro, to introduce Indonesian culture.

Professor of Iwate Prefectural University Japan Visits UAD

22nd-25th October 2016, Goutam Chakraborty (The Head of Laboratory of Department of Software & Information Science Iwate Prefectural University, Japan) visited Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. In this enormous visit, he was warmly welcomed by Prof. Sarbiran, Ph.D. (Vice Rector IV), Kartika Firdausy, S.T., M.T. (Dean of Faculty of Industrial and Technology), faculty members of Faculty of Industrial and Technology of UAD and staff of International Office. After that, they discussed some possible cooperation between UAD and Iwate Prefectural University, such as students exchange, joint research, lecturers exchange, etc. Further, the nearest possible cooperation is cooperation under Laboratory of both universities.
In the evening, Goutam Chakraborty taught general lecture on” An Introduction to EEG and Related Research Problems. A Case Study with BCI” at Faculty of Industrial and Technology of UAD. This class was attended by some faculty members and around two thousands students consisted of Electrical Engineering Study, Information Engineering Study and Master of Informatics Engineering students. They expressed their curiosity to the remarkable lecture by delivering several questions. Moreover, some of them who have keen interest to the research of Goutam Chakraborty said that they can hardly wait for the realization of the cooperation of both universities to get more detailed information related to the professor researches.
