3 Delegations of UAD Joined The World Universities Debating Championship

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) sent 3 delegations to the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) or world-level English debate competition in Bangkok from 7 December 2019 to 4 January 2020. The competition was attended by 430 teams from 50 countries.

The three delegations were Ika Suciwati (English Language Education), Annisa Rizki Nola Nur Sagi (English Literature), and Rifki Wuda Sudirman (English Literature). “Both of them, Annisa and Ika were as the debate team, and the other one, Rifki as adjudicator or jury “, Ika Suciwati said, reporting from Bangkok. Thursday (2/1) Evening.

Ika Suciwati said, after going through 9 preliminary rounds, they did not qualify for the semifinal round but UAD debating team won a total of 9 winning points, which was a pretty high point with maximum hard works. While Rifki, managed to become an expert jury or a panelist for 9 full rounds without ever being lowered to the lowest level as a trainee. The team was accompanied by Nur Rifai Akhsan MEd, UAD lecturer as an expert observer from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Ika Suciwati added, there were 20 teams from Indonesia who took part in this year’s WUDC event. “During these 5 days it was not recommended to wear university attributes to avoid partiality to certain institutions,” She said. Danang Sukantar MPd, Head of Student Development of Bureau of Student Affairs and Alumni (Bimawa) UAD said that. “This team always has the spirit and focus of every moment at the national and international level,” He said. UAD Sent Five Students to UiTM under ASEAN Plus Three Scholarship Program

UAD sent five students from English Literature Department to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. They are Andini Mandala Putri, Arizka Ummarina, Fadia Nurhasanah, Jasmina Zahra, and Melya Putri Astari. They studied at UiTM for one semester from September 2019 to January 2020 under ASEAN+3 and Europe scholarship program.

This program is supported by Indonesian Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education. Its Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs held a credit transfer program as part of an effort to develop student competencies and insights gained through student mobility schemes with several partner countries such as ASEAN, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and USA. This Credit Transfer Program is a recognition process of the credits of study and learning outcomes that have been obtained by a student while studying in a partner university. In addition, through this credit transfer program, home university in Indonesia could learn the various of credit transfer systems, such as European credit transfer systems, ASEAN credit transfer systems, and UMAP credit transfer systems. Then they could apply and develop the systems according to their needs and the regulations of higher education in Indonesia.

Through this program the students learned several subjects, such as Persuasion and Negotiation, Professional Communication, Advanced Reading, Cross Cultural Interaction, dan Advanced Grammar.

UAD Students Performed “Tari Nusantara” at Guanxgi University for Nationlities (GXUN)

UAD students has chosen to be the welcomer of the guest of honor on Chinese Poetry and Singing Competition for Foreign Students at Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) big hall. Syahrani Lonang and Muhammad Rangga Alexia Zegie were performing “Tari Nusantara” to entertain the audiences as well as promoting Indonesian culture. This event was held for foreign students in Nanning city on December 23rd, 2019. Syahrani Lonang and Muhammad Rangga Alexia Zegie are 2+2 students from Informatics Engineering as well as Bayu Krisna Murti and Candra Putra Negara. [i]

UAD Students Participated At Guǎngxī Mínzú Dàxué 2019 Yùndònghuì

Guǎngxī Mínzú Dàxué 2019 Yùndònghuì or Opening of Sports Week was held on November 2, 2019 at Guangxi University for Nationalities sports center. GXUN as the organizer asked Indonesian students to participate in the event. Bayu Krisna Murti, Candra Putra Negara, Muhammad Rangga Alexa Zegie, and Syahrani Lonang, students of Informatics Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Technology participated in a parade representing Indonesia wearing traditional clothes from various regions of Indonesia. UAD Welcomes Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva from University of Wollongong

Last Friday UAD represented by Faculty of Literature, Culture, and Communication (FLCC) and English Education study program welcomed A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva from University of Wollongong (UOW). Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva is an Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and FEC Chair, School of English Literatures and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Wollongong, Australia. He came to UAD to be a guest lecturer for a guest lecture held by FLCC and English Education study program of UAD. In this welcoming agenda, Mrs. Ida Puspita, M.A (Head of UAD Office of International Affairs) presented UAD profile, international programs, and international affairs. Then, it continous with a presentation of FLCC presented by Mrs. Ulaya Ahdiani,S.S., M.Hum (Vice Dean of FLCC). In this presentation, Mrs. Ulaya presented the profile of FLCC, study programs, and concentration of each study program. After that, A/Prof. Tony introduced UOW, especially Faculty of Arts and its study programs. He also explained their research program and management.

On the next day, A/Prof. Tony visited rector of UAD, Drs. Kasiyarno, M.Hum. at Kampus I UAD. On that meeting A/Prof. Tony was also introduced to the vice-rectors of UAD. They shared each other about their university, their structure, and their experience. Hopefully, by the visit of A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva to UAD and his meeting with rector of UAD will be followed up with cooperation between UOW and UAD. (Eci)

FLCC UAD Holds a Guest Lecture by the Speaker from UOW

Friday, April 19, 2013, Faculty of Literature, Culture, and Communication (FLCC) collaborated with English Education Study Program of UAD held a guest lecture at Auditorium Kampus 2 of UAD. That guest lecture was about Text and Context: A Post Colonial Equation which deliver by A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva from University of Wollongong (UOW). A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva is an Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and FEC Chair, School of English Literatures and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Wollongong, Australia. He came to UAD to be a guest lecturer for guest lecturing held by FLCC and English Education study program of UAD.

On that guest lecture, A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silvaex explained postcolonial studies focusing on literary text and popular culture. Besides, he also explained how to teach it and how to criticize postcolonial literature. It was very interested discussion for all participants who were the students of FLCC and English Education study program. The guest lecture led by Drs. M.Arif Rikhman, Pg.Dipl, M.Hum (Can. Doctor) as moderator was very interesting for all participants. Dessy Kamila Sari, S.S, the alumnus of FLCC who was one of participants, said that this guest lecture really helped her to understand postcolonialism, postcolonial literature, and how to analyze it.

“I learn postcolonialsm on my first semester of post-graduate. But I don’t understand it and it lost my interest to postcolonialsm. But this guest lecture helps me to understand postcolonialism, postcolonial literature, and how to analyze it. It opens up my mind and enlarge my knowledge of postcolonialsm.”

At the end of this guest lecture, Tri Rina Budiwati, S.S.,M.Hum. (head department of English Letters Study Program) as the representative of FLCC, handed a compliment to A/Prof. Tony Simoes da Silva. (Eci)

Faculty of Economics UAD Holds a Scientific Discussion with UUM

This noon Faculty of Economics UAD holds a Scientific Discussion about South East Asia Economic Challenges in 2015 (Malaysian and Indonesian Experience) by the speakers Prof. Madya. Dr. Moh. Azizuddin Mohd Sani (Dean of Postgraduate School, Universiti Utara Malaysia), Rai Rake Setyawan, SE., Gd.Bus, MSA (Lecturer of Faculty of Economics UAD), and Dini Yuniarti, S.E., M.Si as the moderator. This discussion was held at Ruang Sidang Kampus 1 UAD from 09.00 to 11.00. It was participated by students of Faculty of Economics UAD, Deans of UAD and Deans of Economics Faculty of private university in Yogyakarta.

Dra. Salamatun Asakdiyah, M.Si., Dean of Faculty of Economics (FE) UAD, stated that this discussion was held to add the network and cooperation of FE UAD and hopefully could strengthen cooperation between UAD and UUM. After this activity, it is expected to be followed up by other cooperation activities in the field of both research and publication of scientific papers.

This discussion is not only a forum for discussion but also for sharing the experiences between the two countries (Indonesia and Malaysia) in order to deal with the economic trends in the region of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) in 2015. As it is known, in 21^stKTT (High Conference) in Cebu – Philippines in 2007, ASEAN has been determined to be an integrated region, as set down in the document of “Cebu Declaration on the Acceleration of the Establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015”. ASEAN Community – in accordance with Bali Concord II in 2003 – consist of 3 (three) pillars: ASEAN Political-Security Community (ASC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and Community ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC). Surely, through this activity, the academics can interact each other to discuss the issues. Besides, this discussion became a media where the academics could interact and discuss each other about the issues and bring benefits for people of Indonesia and Malaysia. (Eci)

Students of UAD Have Completed the AIMS Program at UM

Ismadi and Nurhasanah Usman are the students of UAD from Arabic Language and Letters study program, faculty of Islamic Religion who joined ASEAN International Mobility Scholarship (AIMS) at University of Malaya. This program was conducted during 138 days since September 12^th, 2012 till January 27^th, 2013. In this program, they studied Arabic for one semester at Faculty of Languages and Linguistics.

During AIMS program, they did not only attend lectures, but also did some activities which can enlarge, support and improve their study and their knowledge. Those activities were seminar of writing, Arabic communication practice, cultural discussions, Arabic language learning seminar, Islamic studies, visiting the exhibition on Faculty of Education UM, and visiting IIUM/UIA. For Nurhasanah and Ismadi the chance to join the program did not only give them knowledge and experience, but also improved their skill and knowledge in Arabic language and Islam. Besides, they could practice their Arabic language with the natives. They hope the program could establish a good and harmonic cooperation between UAD and UM, and between Faculty of Islamic religion of UAD and Faculty of Languages and Linguistics of UM, and also improve the quality of Arabic learning between two countries.
