3 Delegations of UAD Joined The World Universities Debating Championship
Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) sent 3 delegations to the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) or world-level English debate competition in Bangkok from 7 December 2019 to 4 January 2020. The competition was attended by 430 teams from 50 countries.
The three delegations were Ika Suciwati (English Language Education), Annisa Rizki Nola Nur Sagi (English Literature), and Rifki Wuda Sudirman (English Literature). “Both of them, Annisa and Ika were as the debate team, and the other one, Rifki as adjudicator or jury “, Ika Suciwati said, reporting from Bangkok. Ika Suciwati said, after going through 9 preliminary rounds, they did not qualify for the semifinal round but UAD debating team won a total of 9 winning points, which was a pretty high point with maximum hard works. While Rifki, managed to become an expert jury or a panelist for 9 full rounds without ever being lowered to the lowest level as a trainee. The team was accompanied by Nur Rifai Akhsan MEd, UAD lecturer as an expert observer from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Ika Suciwati added, there were 20 teams from Indonesia who took part in this year’s WUDC event. “During these 5 days it was not recommended to wear university attributes to avoid partiality to certain institutions,” She said.
