Darmasiswa’s Students of UAD, Closer to the Nature and Culture of Siung Beach in Gunung Kidul
Last Saturday and Sunday (September 22-23, 2012) darmasiswa students of UAD 2012 joined Familiarity Night at Siung in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. That moment was used to familiarize all darmasiswa students who come from some different countries. Besides, to introduce them to the other culture, the beautiful nature, and also the culinary of Indonesia.
All darmasiswa students spent two days and one night at the beach where there was no any electricity and network at all. But all of them were enjoying every moment. They love the Indonesian foods which are provided, such as Pecel, Botok Manding, fried tempe, fried fish, grilled fish, red rice, Lotek, Tempe Bacem, Tahu Bacem, Ca Kangkung, Gudeng of Papaya Leaf, Sayur tempe, variety of Sambal, etc. Those delicious foods made Ullyses, a darmasiswa student from Belgia, wants to learn how to cook sayur tempe (his most favorit menu at that time). Besides, they really enjoy all the activities they had during Familiarity Night at the beach, such as go uphill to see sun set and sun rise as drinking ginger tea and eat boiled cassava, ropelling, rock climbing, playing traditional games (Gobag Sodor and Lompat Tali), barbecuing of cassava and corn arround the campfire, etc. They also enjoy the dinner they had at the beach with torchlight and traditional performance of Mocopat. “ This is excellent. I love the beach and I love the foods”, said Cinta (Indonesian name of darmasiswa student from India). And Raquel from Spain said that, “ It’s really great. I’m so happy and I hope we will have it again”. (E/I)
