UAD Welcomed Representatives from Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia

Yogyakarta, November 26, 2024 — Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) welcomed a delegation from the Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation. The ACU delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Abid Khan (Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise), alongside Prof. Dr. Michael Champion, Prof. Dr. Richard Colledge, Dr. Michelle Lopez, and Dr. George Iwan Marantika, was warmly received by the leadership, faculty, and staff of UAD.

Present at the meeting were the Rector of UAD, Prof. Muchlas, M.T., accompanied by the Vice Rectors: Dr. Nur Kholis, S.Ag., M.Ag. (for Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah Affairs), Prof. Ir. Sunardi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (for Academic Affairs), Dr. Norma Sari, S.H., M.Hum. (for Human Resources), Dr. Gatot Sugiharto, S.H., M.H. (for Student Affairs and Alumni), and the Head of the International Cooperation Division, Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential collaboration in research and student mobility programs. In his opening remarks, Prof. Muchlas expressed hope that this cooperation would open up opportunities for the internationalization of education at UAD.

During the discussion session, UAD introduced its leading academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. These programs are expected to attract interest in research collaboration and student exchange between the two universities. “We believe this partnership will bring great benefits, especially in enhancing the global competitiveness of both our students and faculty,” said Dr. Gatot Sugiharto.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir from UAD to the ACU delegation as a symbol of friendship. The delegation was also invited to visit the Muhammadiyah Museum to learn more about the history and vision of UAD as a university grounded in modern Islamic values. With this spirit of collaboration, it is hoped that the relationship between UAD and ACU will continue to grow stronger and produce positive impacts for both institutions.

19 UAD students have been accepted into IISMA and AIMS Programs in the Republic of Korea, Ireland, Australia, and Malaysia

Yogyakarta (21 Agustus 2024), located at Ruang Ridang Utama Kampus 1 UAD, Office of Partnership and International Affairs conducted a Pre-Departure Ceremony for 19 students who are going to pursue their studies at 8 well-known world universities. 5 students have been accepted into the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship program, and 15 have been accepted into The Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS).

Five students who were granted IISMA scholarships were in Bachelor, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship programs. Putri Nabilah Yuningtias (Psychology Department) is scheduled to start her study in September 2024 at the University of Galway, Ireland; Siti Fayha Maytsa Rahmasari (Psychology Department) will start her study at University College Cork, Ireland in September 2024; and Abdee Firman al-Rasyid (English Literature) will begin his study on October at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia are under IISMA bachelor program.

IISMA Huda Muzaki Putra Andiana (Food Service Industry) has been accepted to the IISMAVocational Program. He has started his class at Woosong University, South Korea. Azra Latifah Listri (Management Department) will study at the University of Melbourne, Australia under the IISMA Entrepreneur Program.

Furthermore, UAD has been granted the AIMS program since 2010. This year, 14 students are accepted AIMS program. Zidna Navela Kamelia, Gandi Muhammad Boleng, Arzety Nabilla Katili, and Fasya Aqilla Ayu Widyadhana are students of Arabic Language and Literature scheduled to start their class in September 2024 at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Four students of English Literature, Sausan Fadhila Noor, Silvi Maulina Sagita, Aqil Julyanriko Pranata, and Agis Zalfa Verenia Nur Rizqy will study at Busan University of Foreign Studies, Republic of Korea. Fariz Noval Fauzi (Indonesian Literature) will study at Busan University of Foreign Studies, Republic of Korea.

Norsyifa (Chemical Engineering), Mohammad Farid Hendianto (Informatic), Shita Az Zahra Febrianti (Teknik Industri), dan Andi Bintang Toar Dondok (Informatika) will pursue their exchange program at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Malaysia, and Zahra Fadillah Utami Rivan (Food Technology) will study at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia.

The Office of Partnership and International Affairs conducted the pre-departure ceremony. This event was officially opened with a brief report of outbound programs. It was followed by a speech from Prof. Ir. Sunardi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academic Affairs). He delivered full support for all outbound programs, especially IISMA and AIMS.oia

Workshop on Building “Dynamic and Positive Learning Environment” at School

June 8-11, 2015, UAD cooperated with Perhimpunan Indonesia Belajar (PIB) and Clayton North Primary School Australia, held a workshop on “Building Dynamic and Positive Learning Environment at School” at campus IV UAD. Dr. Kasiyarno, M.Hum., Rector of UAD, that welcomed the speakers and participants in the opening ceremony, stated that UAD always supports the schools and educations to get improvement. Officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bafadal, M.Pd., Director of Primary Education Development, Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, the workshop was participated by principals and teachers of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Kindergartens and primary schools in Yogyakarta.

In the opening ceremony, UAD also signed an MoU with Indonesia Dyslexia Association and Rector of UAD was appointed to be the Leader of Indonesia Dyslexia Association Yogyakarta. After the opening, some teachers of Kindergartens and primary schools presented their practice at school. Then, Clayton North Primary School teachers, Brad Alphonso, Josie Burt, and Joanne Weston, gave workshop to all teachers. In the last day, the workshop was held directly in the school.

Discussion for Legal Academicians and Practitioners on “Australian Legal Education and Development in the Legal Profession”

Wednesday Afternoon, May 13, 2015, Faculty of Law UAD held a Discussion for Legal Academicians and Practitioners on “Australian Legal Education and Development in the Legal Profession” with Assoc. Prof. Rick Snell Deputy Dean of Law Faculty University of Tasmania (UTas), Australia. Held in Meeting room campus II UAD, this discussion was moderated by Norma Sari, S.H., M.Hum. Inviting Assoc. Prof. Rick Snell from UTas, this activity was also one of cooperation realizations between Faculty of Law UAD and Faculty of Law UTas especially from the discussion during the visit of dean of Law Faculty UAD to UTas last March.

This discussion was participated by lecturers of Law Faculty UAD, Dean and lecturers of Law Faculty of Universities in Yogyakarta, and Dean and lecturers of Law Faculty of Muhammadiyah Universities from around Indonesia, also practitioners from State Court and Legal Aids Center in Yogyakarta.

Studium Generale on Reflections about Comparative Australian and Indonesian Administrative Law

Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Faculty of Law UAD held a studium generale on Reflections about Comparative Australian and Indonesian Administrative Law with Assoc. Professor Rick Snell Deputy Dean of Law Faculty University of Tasmania (UTas), Australia. Held in auditorium campus II UAD, this studium generale was moderated by Fauzan Muhammadi, Lc., LL.M.. Inviting Assoc. Prof. Rick Snell from UTas, this activity was one of cooperation realizations between Faculty of Law UAD and Faculty of Law UTas especially from the discussion during the visit of dean of Law Faculty UAD to UTas last March.

In his lecture, A/Prof. Rick Snell explained why it is difficult to compare Administrative Law in Australia and Indonesia seeing the differences in the number of population, GDP, military expenditure, Human Development index, pre-colonial history, colonial history, culture, language, ethnicity, etc. He also discussed some issues in administrative law such as Law Reform, Ombudsman, and Freedom of Information. During the question and answer session, there were many questions coming from participants that consisted of students of Law Faculty UAD and some dean of Law Faculty of Muhammadiyah Universities from around Indonesia. Some questions related to relationship between Indonesia and Australia regarding to the case of Bali Nine Execution.

UAD Signed MoU with Clayton North Primary School, Australia and Perhimpunan Indonesia Belajar

March 14-20, 2015, delegations of UAD and Principal of Condong Catur Primary School Yogyakarta (as the representative of teachers in Yogyakarta), visited Melbourne to exchange good practices in Education with Clayton North Primary School (CNPS). The first agenda was MoU signing among UAD, CNPS, and Perhimpunan Indonesia Belajar (PIB) as the organization that motors this program, on March 17.

“As one an Institute of Teacher Training and Education in Indonesia, UAD always improves the competency of lecturers and students who are also candidate of teachers. The cooperation among UAD, CNPS, and PIB is one of ways to do that especially for lecturers and students at Early Childhood Education and Primary Teacher Education Study Program of UAD.” Said Dr. Kasiyarno, Rector of UAD.

September 2014, UAD has ever invited two teachers of Clayton North Primary School to be speakers in a Teacher workshop on ”Building Children’s Positive Character through Enjoyable, Healthy and Children-Friendly School” (Learning from Schools in Australia). The visit to Melbourne is follow up of the workshop. For one week, the representative of teachers and also lecturers of UAD sat-in the class to directly observe the instruction in Clayton North such as how Australian schools design the student-centered instruction, how to improve literacy culture, how to deal with students and character building.

For the next cooperative activity, UAD plans to invite Guidance and Counseling teacher of CNPS to give workshop on how to deal with “naughty” children for lecturers and teachers of UAD lab schools in Yogyakarta. In the future, UAD also wants to build its own schools from early childhood education to senior high school. UAD hopes to build such enjoyable, healthy and children-friendly schools that can build the children character.

Saturday-Monday, September 20-21, 2014, Guidance and Counseling, Early Childhood Teacher Education, Primary School Teacher Education study programs, and Office of International Affairs Universitas Ahmad Dahlan in cooperation with Perhimpunan Indonesia Belajar (PIB) held Seminar and Workshop on “Building Children’s Positive Character through Enjoyable, Healthy and Children-Friendly School” (Learning from Schools in Australia) at campus II UAD. The seminar and workshop was officially opened by Vice Rector I UAD, Dr. Muchlas, M.T., and also attended by Brett Steven, Commissioner to Indonesia, Education Services, Victoria Government, Australia.

At the first day of Seminar and Workshop, there were some speakers presenting. They were Prof. Suyata, Ph.D., Dr. Susanto from KPAI (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia), Muhammad Nur Rizal, Ph.D. and Novi Chandra, M.Psi. (PIB), Kenneth Luke Chatterton and Josephine Burt (Clayton North Primary School). The first day seminar was divided into two sessions. The first session was moderated by Iyan Sofiyan, S.Pd., M.A., and the second was by Dwi Santoso, M.Hum.

The participants of the seminar and workshop were primary and kindergarten school teachers especially from UAD Lab schools and Muhammadiyah Schools. They enthusiastically attended the seminar and workshop because all speakers presented very interesting topics and engaged them with activities, especially Ken and Josie who invited them to pretend as primary school students. Out of two day-seminar and workshop, Ken and Josie also visited some UAD Lab Schools in Yogyakarta.

The 3rd UTIC (UAD TEFL International Conference) 2014

Wednesday-Thursday, 17-18, 2014, English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, UAD, held The 3rd UTIC (UAD TEFL International Conference) 2014 at Cavinton Hotel Yogyakarta. The third UTIC 2014 aims to bring together innovative work and new ideas in ELT (English Language Teaching) from a number of different experts in the area while providing a medium for English language teachers and practitioners in general to exchange and share ideas and experience in ELT.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Brian J. Tomlinson, the President of MATSDA (Materials Development Association). Some invited speakers were Prof. Dr. Bustami Subhan, M.S. (UAD, Indonesia), Dr. Hitomi Masuhara (Liverpool University, England), Dr. Tan Bee Tin (Auckland University, New Zaeland), Dr. Dat Bao (Monash University, Australia), Dr. Paul Hullah (Meiji Gakuin University, Japan), Flora Debora Floris (UK Petra, Indonesia). The conference was attended by 359 participants from most provinces in Indonesia, and international participants from 14 countries: England, United States of America, Australia, New Zaeland, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Tunisia, Oman, Japan, Thailand, Turkey, and Philippines. They were teachers, lecturers, education practitioner, university students, and others.

The Monash Students Learn to Play Gamelan at UAD

Thursday-Saturday, February 6-9, 2014, four students of Monash University, Australia, William, Jacob, Max and Jacinta, conducted some activities with UAD. The four students currently study Indonesian language and linguistics in their country and intentionally visited Indonesia and UAD to study more about Indonesian language and culture.

On Thursday, they visit campus I of UAD, then learned to play Angklung, Gamelan, and dance Saman. On Friday, the staff of International Office took them to two UAD Lab Schools, SD Muhammadiyah Sidoarum and SMP Muhamamdiyah 2 Depok. At school, they played games to study English with students, even played football. They were really happy to study and played with children. On Saturday, they were taken to some cultural sites in Yogyakarta such as Borobudur and Prambanan Temple. They enjoyed all activities and thank UAD for warmly welcoming them.

Monash University Students, Australia at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Depok

Friday and Saturday, January 17 and 18, 2014, 5 Monash University students, Australia, Clarice, Jessie, Sarah, Sam and Amodi, together with OIA UAD staff, visited two lab schools of UAD and some cultural sites. Two lab schools visited were SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Depok and SD Muhammadiyah Prambanan. The teachers and students warmly and enthusiastically welcomed them. On Saturday, the Monash students visited Sitinggil, Keraton, and Taman Sari. It was amazing experience for them. Studying Indonesian language becomes more enjoyable when it relates to culture.
