UAD Yogyakarta Welcomes International Students Again Through the Darmasiswa Program 2024

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta is once again welcoming international students through the 2024 Darmasiswa Program. This year, Raghda Mahmoud Mohamed Eid Masoud (Egypt), Nazirov Sorbon (Tajikistan), Andrianaivomalala Tania (Madagascar), and Mehmet Furkan Keles (Turkey) have been selected to study Indonesian language and culture at UAD for 10 months, from September 2024 to June 2025.

The opening and orientation ceremony for the Darmasiswa Program took place at Mercure Harmoni Hotel, Jakarta, from August 29-31, 2024. The event was attended by students from various countries, including Raghda Mahmoud Mohamed Eid Masoud, Nazirov Sorbon, Andrianaivomalala Tania, and Mehmet Furkan Keles.

The Darmasiswa Program provides international students with the opportunity to learn about and gain first-hand experience of Indonesia’s incredible culture and language. Darmasiswa UAD has been focusing on teaching the Indonesian language and culture, especially that of Yogyakarta, and has become one of the top choices for international students.

The four Darmasiswa students will begin their journey at UAD, where they will not only study in the classroom but also engage directly with the local community and enrich their experience of Indonesia.

Darmasiswa Team of UAD Wins Three Trophies in Central Java-Yogyakarta Got Talent

Darmasiswa UAD wins three trophies

17th March 2016. Located at International Office of Universitas Diponegoro Semarang, Central Java, Darmasiswa Team of UAD participated in Central Java & Yogyakarta’s Got Talent Competition. This competition is participated by all of Darmasiswa students from almost all of universities in Central Java & Yogyakarta.

In this chance, two darmasiswa students of UAD Liana Snytsar (Ukraine) and Shakir Samadamaeng (Thailand) participated in Indonesian Speech Competition. While, three darmasiswa students consist of Liana Snytsar (Ukraine), (Kim Soo Yeon (South Korea), and Li Lening (China) participated in Indonesian Art Competition. They performed Piring (plate) Dance, a traditional dance of West Sumatera Province.

To join this competition, all students are well-prepared. They practiced every afternoon for one month before thew competition held. As the result, Liana Snytsar (Ukraine) won the first position and Shakir Samadamaeng (Thailand) won the second position in Indonesian Speech Competition. In addition, dance team of Darmasiswa students got the medal trophy.

“Thanks to all Darmasiswa students for the hard work and great team work. You did your best. We are indeed proud of you. We wish this competition be one of unforgetable experiences to be brought to your countries and will always remind you of Indonesia.” Said Ruslinah (Inbound Staff of International Office of UAD).

She added “We look for the next competitions”.

Darmasiswa Students Visit Gunung Ngelanggeran

27th December 2016, six students who have been studying in UAD under Darmasiswa Scholarship (Indonesian Government Scholarship) along with three staffs of International Office of UAD visited Gunung Ngelanggeran Yogyakarta. They went there to know more about geographic condition of Indonesia as one of Darmasiswa Programs.

They climbed Gunung Ngelanggeran, passed by Embung Ngelangggeran (A big pool made by local society to irrigate local crops) and waterfall Ngelanggeran.

“It was unforgettable experience” Said Liana Snytzar (Ukraine). She added “Besides directly learn geographic condition of Indonesia. We also learn social condition around our trip location. I met an old lady, she is around 125 years old but still able to speak properly”.

Darmasiswa Students Pour Their Experiences in Indonesia on A Bulletin Board

15^th December 2015, Darmasiswa students created bulletin board to complete final exam of writing class. Sudaryanto, M.Pd. (lecturer of writing class) divided students into two groups. Each group consists of three students.

The first group consists of Liana Snitsar (Liana) from Ukraine, Kim Jong Jin (South Korea) who has Indonesian name Harry and Shakir Samadamaeng (Thailand).The second consist of Kim Soo Yeon (South Korea) having Indonesian name Ayu, Li Lening (Kinanti) and Adam Makeng (Thailand).

Main themes are Indonesian Tourism and Indonesian Life. All of the students worked hard for one hour before presenting their creations. They presented their creation in front of the class actively.

“Their bulletin boards meet the themes and those are almost perfect. In addition, since in one team consists of students from different countries. Students learn how to work in a team work, as well”, said Sudaryanto,M.Pd.

Darmasiswa students visit Dirgantara Museum of Yogyakarta

On Monday 23^rd November 2015 Darmasiswa students visited Museum Dirgantara Yogyakarta. This visit was one of ourdoor activities to fulfill menyimak (listening) and membaca (Reading) class. This year, there are six students have been stuying at UAD under Darmasiswa Scholarship Program (Indonesian Goverment Program). They come from Thailand, Ukraine, China and South of Korea.

On the way to Museum, all of the students diligently read article related to Museum Dirgantara Yogyakarta. After ariving at the museum, they activelly asked quetions while listening the guide’s explanation. The students have high enthusiasm in this outing class. “They can see the military aircraft and try the cockpit room.” said Ruslinah (Reading teacher).

“Moreover, by doing outing class student can interestingly explore more about Indonesia especially Yogyakarta”, she added.

August, 6th 2015. Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Director of International Office Universitas Ahmad Dahlan), Dessy Kamila Sari, S.S. (Staff of International Office Universitas Ahmad Dahlan) and delegation from 14 Indonesian Universities visited General Consulate of Republic of Indonesia in Guangzhou. Delegations were warmly welcomed by representatives of General Consulate. In this chance, they discussed the problem of Chinese students who study in Indonesia and how to improve students exchange programs between Indonesian and universities in China. Nowadays, Chinese students in Indonesia study under some programs such as Darmasiswa Program, 2+2 Program and 3+1 Program.

“There are about 13.000 Chinese students study in Indonesia every year. Vice-versa, Indonesian who study in China is far lower than this amount.”, said Herbhayu A. Noerlambang A.S (Representative of General Consulate Republic of Indonesia Guangzhou).

Responding suggestion from delegations of Indonesian universities to improve the number of Indonesian students in China, this event will be followed up by ASEAN-CHINA Education Fair in September. Additionally, there will be a discussion session with Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangdong Medical College and Jinan University with Indonesian Universities.

A Warm Closing Ceremony of International Students Program 2014/2015

It’s all about Togetherness

June 6, 2015, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan held a closing ceremony of International students program 2014/2015. Held in auditorium campus I UAD, this agenda was attended by vice rector III UAD, deans of faculties, heads of study program, head of International office, international students, and also some representative of local students. This year closing ceremony themed “Bringing Indonesian Fairy Tale Alive” performed “ANDE-ANDE LUMUT” the drama which is a famous Indonesian fairy tale.

Ida Puspita, M.A.Res., head of international office, reported that for the academic year of 2014/2015 there are 207 international students enrolls at UAD. They come from China, Thailand, Vietnam, Ukraine, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Egypt, and Timor Leste and study at UAD in various programs such as Darmasiswa scholarship, AIMS (ASEAN International Mobility Students), joint degree 2+2, credit transfer system 3+1, BIPA (Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers), Muhammadiyah scholarship, Unggulan Scholarship for Mindanao, and regular program.

Most of International students UAD that is more than 140 students will finish their program this year and go home country. However, so far there are more than 80 international students registered for the new academic year 2015/2016.

Dr. Abdul Fadlil, M.T., vice rector III UAD, that officially opened the closing ceremony hoped that all international students go home country with a bunch of great experience to share with family, relatives and friends. Chen Yumei (Lestari), an international student from China, represented all her friends expressed her gratitude to UAD that has given the international students a wonderful experience as long as they study in Indonesia. During the program, international students also performed various cultural performance such as national and regional songs, traditional dance, drama, traditional musical instrument, and others.

Five Darmasiswa Students of UAD finished their Community Program

After three weeks conducting Community Program in Klaten, five Darmasiswa Students of UAD finished their activities and were really sad to leave the students and teachers at schools. Anastasiia Dmytruk and Asiia Mukhametalina from Ukraine, Phuong Uyen and Truong Thanh Thao from Vietnam, and Geeta Kumari Meena from India, have involved in a lot of activities teaching foreign language (English, Hindi Language, Russian language, Vietnamese), dance, games, songs, handicraft, etc at SD Muhammadiyah Bayat, SD Muhammadiyah Gantiwarno, and SDIT Muhammadiyah Cawas, and village near their homestay.

This program is really beneficial for the Darmasiswa students. Besides giving Darmasiswa students a chance to involve in the community, this program have also given them a chance to practice and improve their Indonesian language and understand more about Indonesian custom and culture. The Darmasiswa students were also lucky because besides involving them in the schools’ activities, the schools also took them to Batik Home Industry, Gerabah home industry, and some tourism objects. When they came back to Jogja, they proudly showed Batik and Gerabah they made themselves.

UAD sends Darmasiswa students to conduct a Community Program in Klaten

Saturday, January 10, 2015, UAD officially delivered 5 international students from Darmasiswa program to conduct a community program in villages and schools in Klaten. The students were Anastasiia Dmytruk and Asiia Mukhametalina from Ukraine, Phuong Uyen and Truong Thanh Thao from Vietnam, and Geeta Kumari Meena from India. They will conducts activities in three schools which are SD Muhammadiyah Bayat, SDIT Muhammadiyah Cawas and SD Muhammadiyah Gantiwarno, such as teaching foreign language (English, Hindi Language, Ukrainian language, Vietnamese), dance, games, songs, etc. They will also have activities with youth, children, and adults in the village near their homestay.

The program will be conducted for three weeks, from January 10 to 31. During the time, the international students stay in the local people’s house. All teachers and students at school and society at villages warmly welcomed the international students. Some students also performed Dancing and Singing to welcome them. They were all happy and can’t wait for the activities with the international students of UAD.
