UAD Delivers 7 International Students to Conduct Community Engagement Program in Villages and Schools near Prambanan

Children enthusiastically Welcomed the International Students

Saturday, November 10, 2013, UAD officially delivered 7 international students from Darmasiswa program to conduct a community engagement program in villages and schools near Prambanan Temple. The students are divided into two groups. Group 1 consists of Yashnar Sa’dullayev from Uzbekistan, Lilla Tolnai from Hungary, Tejas Yambem from India, and Mitsuyuki Sato from Jepang. Group 1 will conducts activities in SD Muhammadiyah Prambanan such as teaching English, Chinese, Japanese, games, songs, etc. They will also have activities with youth, children, and adults in Bokoharjo village, Prambanan, Sleman, such as cooking, teaching, helping the social activities, etc. Group 2 consists of Mate Molnar from Hungary, Han Renping from China, and Rajkumar Dimbajit from India. Group 2 will teach in SD IT Baiturrahman, and also have activities in Tlogo village, Klaten. They will teach foreign languages, games, cooking, handicraft, etc., to the society.

The program will be conducted for three weeks, from November 9 to 30. During the time, the international students stay with local people’s house. The owners of the house are their parents for them during the program. Besides, one lecturer, Surono, M.Hum., will act as a guiding lecturer for the two groups. All students at school and society at villages warmly welcomed the international students. They were all happy and can’t wait for the activities with the international students of UAD.

Nick Jackson from Monash University, Australia, Becomes A Volunteer to Teach English in some UAD Lab Schools

Nick and Teachers of SD Muhammadiyah Pakem

His name is Nicholas Charles Jackson. Born in Clayton, Melbourne, Australia on February 23rd, 1992, people usually call him Nick. Taking Linguistics and Indonesian Studies, Nick has just finished his bachelor degree education at Monash University, Melbourne. His hobbies are reading, going to the beach and hanging out with friends. Tempe is his Indonesian favorite food. He has one sister and one brother. His parents and siblings all live in Australia.

Nick has started studying Indonesian language since in primary school, but he started to find Indonesian language very interesting since his trip to Bali with his grandfather. After starting to study Indonesian language more seriously, he got more and more encouraged. He found “something” while studying Indonesian language. He ever got a scholarship from Indonesian Embassy in Australia, and often joined Indonesian program or festival in Australia. When taking his bachelor education, he also had a chance to study in two universities in Jogja those are Universitas Gadjah Mada and Universitas Sanata Dharma.

Now, he comes back to Indonesia after finishing his bachelor in Australia, and help some lab schools of UAD to teach English. Teaching not for money, he just wants to give something to Indonesia because he feels he has already got a lot of knowledge, help and chance from Indonesians. At first, teaching felt very difficult for him. Being a teacher is not easy, but step by step he can find the way. Now, when he sees his students could speak English, he feels very happy and amazed. All teachers and students at school are also very happy to have a teacher like Nick. Nick is not only a native speaker of English, but he can also speak Javanese. Therefore, it is always enjoyable to have an English class with him.

When he doesn’t teach at schools, he comes to UAD to teach some staff in UAD. He thanks UAD to give him such chance to teach English in lab schools of UAD. The schools welcome him very well, and all school members are very enthusiastic. “I love Jogja,” said Nick. 🙂

Hundreds Visitors Visit UAD Booth of IHEE at Prince of Songkhla Open Week

UAD booth at Indonesian Higher Education Expo (IHEE) in Songkhla looked so crowded by the visitors who came to Prince of Songkhla University (PSU) Convention Center where Prince of Songkla University Open Week: PSU Education Fair held in Hatyai, Thailand. UAD became one of delegations from Indonesia for this expo, held from August 13^th to 17^th, 2013. The enthusiasm of the visitors to UAD booth can be seen in the first day of exhibition. There were around 85 students came to UAD booth. Most of them were interested to continue their study in Indonesia, especially at Muhammadiyah Higher Education in Yogyakarta. Yasuli Bindulem, the alumnus of UAD who becomes madrasah teacher in Thailand said that high school students in Thailand have a great interest to continue their study abroad, especially in Indonesia. Therefore, he suggests his students to continue their study at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD).

The success of UAD at this expo could not be separated from the alumni and students of UAD who come from Thailand, such as Yasuli Bindulem, MusAb Buenae, and Abdullah Umacheeta who enthusiastically helped UAD to attract visitors to come to our booth. They also became the mouthpiece between UAD and most of visitors who could not speak English.

“I’m proud to introduce UAD to my juniors as the best Muhammadiyah higher education in Yogyakarta to continue their study in Indonesia”, said MusAb Buenae, a 7^th semester student of Psychology at UAD.

Besides, at that expo UAD was also helped by its alumni who become teacher at some Muslim schools in Songkhla, such as Anis Asriati, S.S., Fitri Nuryani, S.S, Dwi Puji Lestari, S.Pd., Islakhul Fatayati, S.Pd., Fitri Nurul Hikayat, S.Pd, Islahudin, S.Pd, and Asma Kurniam S.Pd.

Beside participating in this expo, UAD represented by Ida Puspita, M.A as the head of International office of UAD and her staff, Intan Rawit Sapanti, S.Pd. visited Hatyai University and PSU to explore the possibility to cooperate with them. Not so long time ago, some delegations of PSU visited UAD to sign an MoU as the collaboration has been created between UAD and PSU. Then, PSU offered UAD a research collaboration in food processing and business management through collaborative activities. And with Hatyai University, those collaborative activities will be in the field of Business Management.

During the activities in Songkhla, UAD and other delegations of IHEE from Indonesia also visited Consulate General of Indonesia in Songkhla, Thailand. They were welcomed warmly by the representative of Consulate General and the staffs. At that moment, UAD represented by Ida Puspita, M.A expressed the gratitude to Consulate General of Indonesia in Songkhla for the opportunities given to UAD so that UAD could deliver its alumni to be the teachers of English and Arabic at some Muslim schools in Songkhla as the realization of Thai government’s commitment to the program of ASEAN community 2015.
