UAD and GDUFS Intensify their Research Collaboration and International Law Education
Yogyakarta, June 21, 2025 — Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), through its Office of Partnerships and International Affairs (KKUI), welcomed a delegation from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), China, in an effort to reinforce international cooperation in education and research. The meeting took place in the Rectorate Meeting Room, Campus I B UAD, and was attended by the leadership of both universities.
This visit from GDUFS was not their first, as the partnership with UAD has been ongoing since 2012. The GDUFS delegation was led by its President, Shi Youqi, and included the Directors of the Office of Research Affairs, the Office of Development and Planning, the International Office, as well as heads of the Lao and Khmer Language Departments from the Faculty of Southeast Asian Studies. Also in attendance was a lecturer of Indonesian language from GDUFS.
UAD, represented by Rector Prof. Dr. Muchlas, M.T., along with university leaders, representatives from the Faculty of Law, and officials from KKUI, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. In his address, the Rector emphasized the importance of this meeting as a strategic step toward realizing more concrete and impactful collaborations.
“I hope that through this open discussion, we can establish stronger collaborations, especially in the development of legal studies, education, and research between Indonesia and China,” stated Prof. Muchlas.
GDUFS President Shi Youqi expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from UAD and conveyed his keen interest in the collaborative initiatives to be implemented.
During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities for joint legal research focused on democracy in Indonesia and China. Additionally, GDUFS proposed a partnership in book publication and translation. The Faculty of Law at UAD will have the opportunity to publish academic books that will be translated into Mandarin and distributed in China—and vice versa.
Of particular note, the Rector of UAD also received an official invitation from GDUFS to attend a prestigious conference to be held this October. The event is part of an initiative to establish a think tank forum between Guangdong Province and ASEAN countries.
This meeting not only strengthens the partnership between the two institutions but also paves the way for cross-national knowledge integration, particularly in the fields of law and Southeast Asian cultural studies.
