A Guest Lecture Themed “Islam in Australia: Challenges and Opportunities” and “Evaluating National School Programs in The English Language”
Monday, 26th of August, 2013, Ahmad Dahlan University, cooperated with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, held a guest lecture at Campus II UAD. The faculties and study programs involved in the guest lecture were Faculty of Literature, Culture, and Communication (English Letters Department), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (English Education Department), and English Education Graduate Program. The speaker was Prof. Dr. Desmond Cahill, Ph. D. from RMIT. Attended by lectures of the faculties involved, the guest lecture discussed 2 themes, “Islam in Australia: Challenges and Opportunities”, and “Evaluating National School Programs in The English Language”.
The head of English Letters Study Program, Tri Rina Budiwati, S.S., M. Hum., said that the two themes were chosen because Prof. Dr. Desmond Cahill, Ph. D. actually masters the two themes well. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Desmond Cahill, Ph.D. explained on how Islam is actually an old religion in Australia. It didn’t come to Australia recently but since long time ago. Meanwhile, for the education theme, he discussed on how Australia only has a state’s curriculum, not national one. The guest lecture was really interactive because many participants came to ask questions.
