The 6th International Day
Tuesday, 5th December 2016, located at Auditorium Campus 1 of UAD, Office of International Affairs (OIA) UAD successfully held annual event of The 6th International Day. As the number of international student rises continuously,they also come from more varied countries. This time, the event took theme “Celebrating Our Similarities, Embracing Our Differences”. UAD has more then 200 international students coming from China, Thailand, Malaysia, South of Korea, East Timor, Ukraine, Yemen, etc. In 2015, UAD widely known has the biggest number of Chinese students in Yogyakarta. Further, UAD also invited International students and International Office Staff from other universities in Yogyakarta. They are Turkish students, Yemeni, Nepalese, etc.
This event was created to embrace international and local students through traditional food and culture. In the first session, international students participated in Indonesian food cooking competition. Basic ingredients of this cooking competition was tempe and tahu. Tahu and tempe is well-known as Indonesian traditional food.
In the second session, while cooking competition was holding, visitors also could taste international flavors in food culinary festival. All international students decorated their booths and wore traditional clothes to attract visitors to come and visit their booths. They also tried to speak understandable Indonesian language to interest and open conversation with the visitors. In the third session, Chinese students danced and sang Chinese songs, Thailand students performed traditional dance and sang Indonesian songs. Moreover, an invited student from Nepal presented an outstanding presentation about his country.
In the last session, the winner of the cooking competition and the best booth, the best team work and the most favorite team were announced. All of the international students enthusiastically waited the announcement.
Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Director of International Office) said “This event is the first time for UAD to invite international students from other universities in Yogyakarta. I wish this event can lead cooperation among international students in Yogyakarta. Additionally, we can internationally introduce UAD”.
