Promoting Research with Real Impact on Society, UAD organizes IMPACT training collaboratively

Yogyakarta, July 23, 2025 — Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), in collaboration with Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), organized the IMPACT Training Program titled “Creating and Enhancing Research Impact Beyond the University.” The two-day training took place on July 22–23, 2025, at the Leadership Room, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Law, UII Yogyakarta.

This initiative is part of an international collaboration with the University of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, which delegated its higher education leadership expert, Prof. David Dawson, as the keynote speaker. The training aims to build the capacity of research centers to generate broader research impact. Utilizing the Impact Enhancement Framework approach, the program highlights five key steps in designing and expanding research impact: articulating, generating, evidencing, sustaining, and extending impact.

The training was not only theoretical but also practical. Participants were equipped with the skills to integrate impact-based strategies into their research practices and to design real actions for implementing research agendas that benefit society. In addition, participants will receive ongoing mentorship to ensure sustainable implementation of the framework.

A total of 24 participants from various research centers and units took part in this training. From UAD, seven heads of research centers were present, including the Ahmad Dahlan Halal Center, the Astronomy Study Center, the Disaster Mitigation and Management Study Center, the Energy and Environment Study Center, the Disability Study Center, the Sakinah Family Study Center, and the Public Policy Study Center. UAD’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Sunardi, stated that this training aligns well with the spirit of research downstreaming, which goes beyond publication and directly addresses societal needs. He also emphasized that the program is expected to equip newly appointed research center heads with insights to further develop their centers.

Sustained Leadership Capacity Building in Higher Education
This IMPACT training is a continuation of the Erasmus+ grant program aimed at strengthening leadership capacity in higher education, previously held at UAD in 2023, which targeted deans and vice deans. After successfully helping university leaders develop change projects within their respective units, this time the training focuses on human resources within research centers. UAD’s Vice Rector for Human Resources, Dr. Norma Sari, stated that such capacity-building programs are valuable opportunities that should be fully utilized as a result of the strategic partnership between UAD and the University of Gloucestershire.

UAD and MSU Philippines Organize Learning Session and MoU Signing for Cross-National Collaboration

Yogyakarta, June 20, 2025 – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) continues to demonstrate its commitment to building global networks. This time, through the Office of Partnerships and International Affairs (KKUI), UAD hosted an official visit from Mindanao State University (MSU) Maguindanao, Philippines, under the theme “Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).”

Far beyond a ceremonial formality, the warm meeting held in the West Glass Room, 10th Floor of UAD Main Building, Campus IV, marked a pivotal moment for both institutions as they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – a first step toward international collaboration in education, research, and student capacity development.

In his opening remarks, UAD’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ir. Sunardi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of international synergy that prioritizes humanitarian values. “We greatly welcome this partnership. We hope UAD and MSU will continue to collaborate in impactful programs that advance education and promote women’s participation in peacebuilding,” he stated.

This sentiment was echoed by Dr. Arceli B. Naraga, MSU’s Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, who highlighted the strategic nature of the partnership in strengthening international networks and enhancing women’s contributions to peace and sustainable development. “We hope this collaboration will not end with the signing of the MoU, but will evolve into concrete actions with wide-reaching impact, especially in advancing education and gender issues in Southeast Asia,” she expressed.

The visiting delegation, comprising 27 representatives from MSU, included university leaders as well as representatives from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the Philippines, the British Embassy, and the Bangsamoro Women Academy. Beyond the MoU signing, the event also featured an engaging learning session centered on the Women, Peace, and Security theme.

This session featured prominent gender scholars and practitioners from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, including, Rosyidah, S.E., M.Kes., Ph.D. (Dean of the Faculty of Public Health), Ariati Dina Puspitasari, S.Si., M.Pd. (Chair of Central Leadership of Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah), Dr. Tri Wahyuni Sukesi, S.Si., M.P.H. (Chair of UAD’s Gender-Based Violence Prevention Task Force), Khusnul Hidayah, S.E., S.Ag., M.Si. (Head of UAD’s Center for Gender Studies).

The open and empathetic discussion offered fresh perspectives on how women can become central agents in conflict resolution and sustainable development.

Looking ahead, UAD and MSU have agreed to develop a range of concrete initiatives, including: interdisciplinary collaborative research, faculty and student exchange programs, and strengthened academic capacity through international immersion programs rooted in the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) framework.

More than a formal institutional agenda, this meeting between UAD and MSU serves as a reminder that a university is not merely a place of learning—it is a space for ideas, action, and transformation. Through the overarching theme of Women, Peace, and Security, this collaboration stands as a shared commitment to shaping a more inclusive, peaceful, and gender-just future for Southeast Asia.

FEB UAD Enhances Academic Collaboration with Management and Science University, Malaysia

Yogyakarta, December 17, 2024 — The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) continues to expand its international collaboration network by welcoming a delegation from Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia. The event, held in the Smartroom at UAD’s Campus 1, aimed to strengthen academic cooperation, including joint research and joint classroom initiatives.

Representing FEB UAD at the meeting were Dr. Dini Yuniarti, S.E., M.Si., CIQnR. (Dean of FEB UAD), Dyah Fitriani, S.E., M.M. (Vice Dean of FEB), Rifki Khoirudin, S.E., M.Ec.Dev., MAPPI (Cert.) (Head of the Development Economics Program), Tina Sulistiyani, S.E., M.M. (Head of the Management Program), Sartini, S.E., M.S.Acc., Ph.D., Ak., CA. (Head of the Accounting Program), Dr. Wardiyanta, M.Hum. (Head of the Business and Food Services Program), Dr. Fitroh Adhilla, S.E., M.Si. (Head of the Master of Management Program), and Ulaya Ahdiani, S.S., M.Hum. (Head of the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships). Representing MSU was Prof. Nurul Asyikeen Binti Abdul Jabar.

This initiative marks a strategic step by FEB UAD in supporting the internationalization of education while contributing to the advancement of knowledge.

Through this visit, UAD and MSU reaffirmed their commitment to fostering close relations and creating academic synergies that benefit the global community.

Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) Yogyakarta Joins the Indonesia 2024 Higher Education Exhibition in Thailand

Yala, Thailand – Universitas Ahmad Dahlaln (UAD) Yogyakarta once again plays a role in strengthening international relations, particularly in the field of education, by participating in the Indonesia 2024 Higher Education Exhibition in Thailand. The exhibition, held at Yala Rajabhat University, Yala, on December 11-12, 2024, was an initiative of the Indonesian Consulate Songkhla and was attended by 37 universities from across Indonesia.

For two days, the enthusiasm of thousands of Thai students was evident at the exhibition. They visited university stands to gather information about higher education in Indonesia. In this event, the UAD delegation introduced UAD premier programs, including various fully-funded and partial scholarships for international students.

UAD presence at the Indonesia Higher Education Exhibition is a concrete proof of the university’s commitment to providing quality education for international students, especially from Thailand, and a strategic step in developing a global collaboration network.

UAD Welcomed Representatives from Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia

Yogyakarta, November 26, 2024 — Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) welcomed a delegation from the Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation. The ACU delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Abid Khan (Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise), alongside Prof. Dr. Michael Champion, Prof. Dr. Richard Colledge, Dr. Michelle Lopez, and Dr. George Iwan Marantika, was warmly received by the leadership, faculty, and staff of UAD.

Present at the meeting were the Rector of UAD, Prof. Muchlas, M.T., accompanied by the Vice Rectors: Dr. Nur Kholis, S.Ag., M.Ag. (for Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah Affairs), Prof. Ir. Sunardi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (for Academic Affairs), Dr. Norma Sari, S.H., M.Hum. (for Human Resources), Dr. Gatot Sugiharto, S.H., M.H. (for Student Affairs and Alumni), and the Head of the International Cooperation Division, Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential collaboration in research and student mobility programs. In his opening remarks, Prof. Muchlas expressed hope that this cooperation would open up opportunities for the internationalization of education at UAD.

During the discussion session, UAD introduced its leading academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. These programs are expected to attract interest in research collaboration and student exchange between the two universities. “We believe this partnership will bring great benefits, especially in enhancing the global competitiveness of both our students and faculty,” said Dr. Gatot Sugiharto.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir from UAD to the ACU delegation as a symbol of friendship. The delegation was also invited to visit the Muhammadiyah Museum to learn more about the history and vision of UAD as a university grounded in modern Islamic values. With this spirit of collaboration, it is hoped that the relationship between UAD and ACU will continue to grow stronger and produce positive impacts for both institutions.

OIA UAD Holds Immersion Program: UAD International Students Experience Indonesia’s Warmth and Uniqueness

Yogyakarta, October 31, 2024 – Office International Affairs at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (OIA UAD) successfully organized an Immersion Program attended by 59 new international students from various countries, including Egypt, Kenya, China, South Korea, Madagascar, Thailand, Tajikistan, Yemen, and Timor Leste. Held in Pulesari Tourism Village, Sleman, DIY, the event offered a unique experience and an opportunity to foster cross-national friendships.

The program aimed to help students get to know each other and nurture a sense of togetherness and mutual cooperation. In addition to enjoying the local nature and culture, they also tried a variety of new experiences. A highlight of the program was tasting Snakefruit, a first-time experience met with enthusiasm by the students.

This program serves as an initial step for students to get to know Indonesia and feel the warmth of togetherness in their new environment.

Office of International Affairs Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (OIA UAD) Holds Orientation for New International Students

Yogyakarta, September 24, 2024 — The Office of Collaboration and International Affairs at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (KKUI UAD) held an orientation event for 89 new international students in the Auditorium Room of UAD Campus 2. This Tuesday’s event marked an important milestone for students about to embark on their academic journey at UAD.

The Head of KKUI UAD, Ulaya Ahdiani, S.S., M.Hum., officially opened the event, accompanied by the Head of International Cooperation, Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The orientation was divided into three engaging sessions. The first session was led by Fahmi Prasetyo Nugroho, S.Tr.Im, from Yogyakarta Immigration, discussing residence permit regulations in Indonesia. The second session was guided by Asrikah Puji Lestari, M.Pd., from UAD’s Academic and Admissions Office, explaining academic procedures from enrollment to graduation. The final session was delivered by Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd., who introduced UAD’s lecture activities as well as the ethics and rules to be followed on campus.

With the information gathered from this event, it is hoped that international students can begin their studies with confidence and be inspired to make positive contributions to UAD’s academic environment.

UAD Yogyakarta Welcomes International Students Again Through the Darmasiswa Program 2024

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta is once again welcoming international students through the 2024 Darmasiswa Program. This year, Raghda Mahmoud Mohamed Eid Masoud (Egypt), Nazirov Sorbon (Tajikistan), Andrianaivomalala Tania (Madagascar), and Mehmet Furkan Keles (Turkey) have been selected to study Indonesian language and culture at UAD for 10 months, from September 2024 to June 2025.

 

The opening and orientation ceremony for the Darmasiswa Program took place at Mercure Harmoni Hotel, Jakarta, from August 29-31, 2024. The event was attended by students from various countries, including Raghda Mahmoud Mohamed Eid Masoud, Nazirov Sorbon, Andrianaivomalala Tania, and Mehmet Furkan Keles.

 

The Darmasiswa Program provides international students with the opportunity to learn about and gain first-hand experience of Indonesia’s incredible culture and language. Darmasiswa UAD has been focusing on teaching the Indonesian language and culture, especially that of Yogyakarta, and has become one of the top choices for international students.

 

The four Darmasiswa students will begin their journey at UAD, where they will not only study in the classroom but also engage directly with the local community and enrich their experience of Indonesia.

Sea Teacher Program Students flooded UAD

After COVID-19 was officially declared ended, the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia  (Sea Teacher) program students’ number surged rocketly.  Sea-teacher is a yearly event that gives opportunities to Southeast Asian students to study for a semester at partner Southeast Asian universities.

Since the first quarter of the year, students from UAD’s partner universities from the Philippines, and Thailand came to UAD. Coordinated by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP)  of UAD, They conducted an internship at UAD’s partner schools. At schools, they got teaching experiences, class observation, and supervision.

During their stay, accompanied by international buddies, they also will have an excursion to historical places. On 7 November, for the third time, UAD welcomed Sea Teacher program students from Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University (VRU), Thailand. They have been scheduled to teach at SD Muhammadiyah Wirobrajan 3 Yogyakarta for a month.

Muhammad Sayuti, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. (The Dean of FKIP) delivered his support during the opening ceremony. He stated, “This program opened vast cooperation among UAD and Southeast Asian universities and embraced friendship among the students.”

UAD Welcomed Sea-Teacher Students from Two Partner Universities in the Philippines

On the 4th of September Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of UAD welcomed 9 students from the University of Saint Anthony (USANT) and the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), the Philippines under the Sea-Teacher Program.

Sea Teacher or Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia gives opportunities to university students of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) to practice teaching at overseas schools for a month. Three students from USANT and six students from ISUFST were scheduled to teach at partner schools of UAD in Yogyakarta. Trixia May O. Elevado, and Mary Joy E. Gepitulan from USANT teach at SMP Muhammadiyah Sewon. Edward Paul D. Castro (USANT) and Chlyredth B. Casaldan (ISUFST)  teach at SMP Muhammadiyah Unggulan Aisyah. Julius B. Maglasang and Kristoffer Rhys H. Grabato from ISUFST teach at  SMP Muhammadiyah Bantul. Angel Faith A. Sojon and Kate Concepcion C. Benagua from ISUFST teach at SD Unggulan Aisyah, and Sheena Marie S. Detore (ISUFST) teach at SD Muhammadiyah Bantul.

This program was the second batch of offline Sea Teachers this year, in May UAD also welcomed four students from the Capiz State University (CAPSU), the Philippines. They had teaching experiences at SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen, dan SMP Muhammadiyah. On 12 August, UAD sent ten students of FKIP to gain overseas teaching experiences at CAPSU, ISUFT, and West Virginia University of the Philippines, and at Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University (VRU), Thailand.

During the welcoming ceremony, Rusydi Umar, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice Rector of Academic Affairs), Muhammad Sayuti, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. (Dean of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education), dan Dr. Sunny (Dean of Faulty of Education of ISUFST ) officially delivered their support on this program.
