Teacher’s Day in China: Tri Amalia Lestari, M.Pd.BI. Gets The Award of BEST OUTSTANDING FOREIGN TEACHER OF THE YEAR at Guangxi University for Nationalities
In China, the teacher’s day (教师 节 – Jiaoshi Jie) is celebrated every September 10. The students usually say 教师 节 快乐 (Jiaoshi jie Kuaile) or Happy Teacher ‘s Day or in Indonesian “Selamat Hari Guru” to their teachers or lecturers. In addition, they also send a gift, a bunch of flower or fruit. For Tri Amalia Lestari, M.Pd.BI., one of the lecturers sent by UAD to teach Indonesian at Guangxi University for Nationalites (GXUN), China, the moment of the teacher’s day this year is so special because she was awarded as the Best Outstanding Foreign Teacher of the Year.
In her second year of teaching Indonesian in China, Amelia never stops giving her best to the university and students. Not only using creative and interactive teaching methods, but she also engages the students outside the class by actively conductin various positive activities such as teaching dance, drama and cooking . In addition, this well-known as talkative and friendly woman, also had successfully initiated and become the chairman of the committee of Indonesian Festival held in GXUN consisting of various Indonesian competitions such as story telling, speech, singing, etc. and closed with a spectacular Indonesian art and culture performance.
“Alhamdulillaah. I am very happy and grateful to receive this award. I hope this can be a pride for UAD for having sent me to teach here. And I promise that i will always give my best to the students and university here.” Said Amelia.
Among fellow lecturers, Amelia is well-known as friendly , easy-going , and good at finding interesting topic so that others always stand conversing with her. Meanwhile, for students, she is not only as a teacher but also a friend . In class, she always motivates students to actively communicate using Indonesian but with relaxed and enjoyable learning methods and media, so the students are not boring . Outside the classroom, she sometimes goes hanging out with their the students, cooks and eats together, plays a joke, etc.. That’s why the students do not hesitate to ask questions and feel comfortable to talk to her.
