Wang Yan, An International Student of UAD: The Runner Up on ISS Essay Competition
Wang Yan, an international student of UAD was the Runner Up on the Third International Student Summit Essay Competition 2014 held in Grand Quality Hotel, Yogyakarta. Held by Directorate of Higher Education on November 13-16, 2014, ISS is an annual meeting participated by international students who study at universities in Indonesia.
UAD sent three International Students to participated in this event. They were Phuong Uyen Le (Yeni), Thanh Thao Truong (Tika) from Vietnam and Wang Yan (Yulia) from China. The three students sent their essays to the committee and two of them were selected to be top 10 essays, which were Tika’s and Yulia’s essay. Tika and Yulia, together with other eight students had a chance to present their essay and should answer two questions from the judges related to their essays.
Beside the essay competition, there wee also other programs such as presentation, focused group discussion, Indonesia International Student Association (IISA) President Election, and trip to Borobudur Temple. At the end of the event, Wang Yan was announced as the Runner Up of Essay competition. Yulia was really surprised and never thought that she could win. Themed on “The Developing Countries in Playing the Role and Global Leadership”, Yulia wrote a paper explaining on how China as a developing country has been being much improving in economy sector because China now opens wider chance for foreign companies to joint in Business. Yulia believes that Indonesia could do the same.
“I’m thank UAD to give me a chance to participate in this event. I’m surprised and never imagine that I could win, but I’m very happy.” Said Yulia.
