Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement of UAD Conducted An Online Scholarship Sharing Session





Yogyakarta (19 March 2022), UAD conducted IISMA Program Application Socialization.
This event was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs), and Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement).
In his speech, the Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs delivered UAD full support on this program.
Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (Head of Office of International Affairs) was invited as the key speaker in this program. She delivered in detail the application and selection process of the IISMA program.
Wednesday, 9th March 2022, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) virtually signed MoA with Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) Malaysia.
Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD), Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-Rector of academic affairs), Profesor Madya Dato’ Dr. Mohd Farid Ravi bin Abdullah (Rector of Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) Malaysia), Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (the Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (Head of International Office Affairs of UAD), and Faculty Members of both sides attended the MoA Signing between the Hadith Studies and Arabic Language and Literature of UAD and KUIS.
Yogyakarta, 12nd February 2022, Uiversitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), cooperated with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Yogyakarta (UPNVY) held the last IISMA Yogya Festival Series on “IISMA Courses Recognition”. Dr. Ir. Kiki Yulianti, M.Sc. (Representative of the General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology) officially opened the festival. In her speech, she appreciated IISMA’s Yogyakarta Committee for supporting the students by conducting IISMA Yogya Festival. Moreover, she delivered government support on the IISMA program.
After that, Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs of UAD), and Prof. Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi, M.S. (Rector of UPNVY) delivered their official remarks. Junaidi, M.A. (Deputy Director of Project Management Office of Emancipated Learning (MBKM), Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology), and Dr.Eng. Ir. R. Rachmat A. Sriwijaya, S.T., M.T., D.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng. (Head of IISMA Program) were invited as the speakers.
Around two hundred participants attended this festival. They are the IISMA committee at their university. Related questions were eagerly raised during this meeting.
Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) and Capiz State University (CAPSU) officially conducted a closing ceremony of the Faculty Exchange Program. This event was formally opened by Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD).
Following up the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed by the English Education Department and English Literature of UAD with CAPSU, both parties conducted a faculty exchange program. Eight lecturers from UAD taught at CAPSU, vice versa, eight lecturers of CAPSU taught at UAD.
Four lecturers of the English Education program of UAD who taught at CAPSU are; Dr. Surono, M.Hum. and Dr. Azwar Abbas, M.Hum taught Principle and Theories of Language Acquisition and Learning; and Bambang Widi Pratolo, Ph.D., and Dr. Ani Susanti taught Teaching and Assessment Macro Skills.
Four lecturers of English Literature of UAD who taught at CAPSU are; Ajar Pradika Ananta Tur, S.S. M.A., and Lazuar Azmi Zulferdi, S.S. M.Appl.Ling. taught Structure of English; and Hana Farida, S.S. M.A., and Resneri Daulay, S.S. M.A taught Literary Criticism.
Eight lecturers of CAPSU who taught at UAD are: Dr. Hazel Joaquin, Dr. Joey Balatayo, Dr. Luis Placido Lachicha, and Dr. Christine Quenga taught at the English Education Program of UAD. Besides that, Dr. Leo Andrew Biclar, Dr. Nedy Coldovero, Dr. Rossandrew Villaruel, and Dr. Christy Agnas taught at English Literature of UAD.
Besides that, four lecturers of UAD were sent as host lecturers at CAPSU. They are Wajiran, Ph.D., Dwi Santoso, Ph.D., Dr. Ani Susanti, and Dr. Azwar Abbas, M.Hum. Four lecturers of CAPSU were sent as host lecturers at UAD. They are Dr. Miraluna T. Sabid, Dr. Christy B. Agnas, Ms. Marien A.Laureto, and Dr. Hazel D. Joaquin.
After that, Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (Head of Office of International Affairs), introduced the exchanged lecturers from UAD, and Ms. Marien A. Laureto (University Coordinator, Office of the External Affairs and Linkages) trained lecturers from CAPSU.
Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD), and Dr. Editha C. Alfon (President of CAPSU) congratulated the committee and participants of the program. Additionally, they detailed the possible cooperation in the future between two parties. Last but not least, they delivered their support and suggestions for both parties.

Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs) of UAD awarded the certificates for CAPSU lecturers, and Susan O Dangan, EdD (Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs) of CAPSU, awarded the certificates to UAD lecturer. Last but not least, both Vice-Rectors of Academic Affairs delivered their support to conduct the same activities yearly. Mary Ann B. Martelino, Ph.d. (Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages), officially closed the closing ceremony of the Faculty Exchange Program.
Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD) delivered, “On behalf of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the President and the team from Capiz State University Philippines for the support and assistance during the implementation of this program. Also, sincere gratitude goes to all the team from UAD who have contributed to the success of this program. I am personally delighted and thankful to all of the teams from both CAPSU and UAD. They have been very successful in activating the MoU into the first collaborative activity, Faculty Exchange Program. The opening ceremony of this program was conducted on 21 October 2021, and the closing is held today, 19 January 2022. For approximately two months since the first class was started on 22 October 2021 and ended on 26 December 2021, I believe that this activity has benefited both UAD and CAPSU in many ways. Through this program, the lecturers and students from both universities have the opportunity to expand their international network, or for some students and lecturers this might be the first time to get their international exposure, to open the possibilities of creating more collaborative activities in the future, to get the international atmosphere in the classrooms, to learn cross-cultural understanding between the two countries during the program, and many others. Through the classrooms of Theory of Literature, Pragmatics, Literary Criticism, Structure of English, Theories and Principles in English Language Teaching, Teaching and Assessment and Macro Skills, Principles and Theories of Language Acquisition and Learning, and Semantics, this program has given a new experience and open a broader perspective for at least around 300 – 400 students and 21 lecturers from both UAD and CAPSU who are involved in the program.
We hope that this program will be continued in the next semester/next year and become the opening collaborative program for UAD and CAPSU that can trigger many more collaborations in the future not only for English Education and English Literature Departments, but also to our other faculties at UAD and CAPSU. We will definitely support any initiation of the other collaborations such as student exchange, joint research and community service, joint publication and so forth.”
Surabaya (20/12/21) International Office Affairs Association of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education hold a yearly meeting.
This meeting was officially opened by Dr. dr. Sukadiono, M.M. (Rector of Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya), and Prof. Dr. H. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec.
Firman Hidayat, S.S., M.Si. (Representative of Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia) presented strengthening international cooperation and reporting ongoing cooperation. Dr. Muslich Hartadi Hartanto from Universiti Technology PETRONAS Malaysia presented the Implementation International Cooperation. It was followed by presentation on Indonesian International Students Mobility Awards (IISMA) delivered by Yordan Gunawan, SH., MBA., MH. (Head of International Relations Office (IRO) UMY.
On first day’s evening of international Office Affairs Association of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education yearly meeting, the forum decided Yordan Gunawan, SH., MBA., MH. is going to lead the national forum until 2023. He also was chosen as the leader of international Office Affairs Association of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education 2019/2021.
Opening the second day ,Putri Nailatul Himma, and AA Sodikin presented and discussed Study Permit for International Student.
It was followed by presentation on International Credit Transfer (ICT) program delivered by Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Head of International Office Affairs of UAD).
Prof. Lincolin Arsyad, Ph.D. officially closed this program. Following the closing ceremony, Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. delivered information on International Webinar Scheduled by DAAD.
After signing MoU at the beginning of 2020 between Universitas Ahmad Dahlan and Capiz State University (CAPSU). It was followed by signing MoA between English Literature and English Education. Realizing this MoA, UAD and CAPSU scheduled a Faculty Members Exchange Program. Eight Lecturers of UAD are scheduled to teach at CAPSU, vice versa eight lecturers of CAPSU are scheduled to teach at UAD.
To officially open this program, UAD and CAPSU on 22nd October 2021 conducted an opening ceremony of Faculty Members Exchange. This ceremony was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of UAD), and Dr. Susan O. Dangan (Vice President for Academic Affairs of CAPSU).
Following the opening remarks, Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD), and Dr. Editha C. Alfon (President of CAPSU) delivered official speeches on ongoing programs and possible cooperation of both universities.
After that, Dr. Ani Susanti (Head of English Education) introduced the lecturers from English Education who will be teaching at CAPSU. They are Dr. Surono, M.Hum. dan Dr. Azwar Abbas, M.Hum. They will teach Semantics. Bambang Widi Pratolo, Ph.D., dan Dr. Ani Susanti will teach Theories and Principles in English Language Teaching.
It was followed by the introduction of the lecturers from English Literature who will teach at CAPSU. Hafiz Kurniawan, M.A. (Secretary of English Literature) introduced Ajar Pradika Ananta Tur, S.S. M.A., dan Lazuar Azmi Zulferdi, S.S. M.Appl.Ling. who will teach Structure of English, and Hana Farida, S.S. M.A. dan Resneri Daulay, S.S. M.A who will teach Literary Criticism.
CAPSU also scheduled eight lecturers to teach at UAD for one semester. Dr. Christy Agnas, Dr. Rossandrew Villaruel, Dr. Nedy Coldovero, and Dr. Leo Andrew Biclar are scheduled to teach English Literature. Dr. Christine Quenga, Dr. Luis Placido Lachicha, Dr. Joey Balatayo, and Dr. Hazel Joaquin are scheduled to teach at English Education.
Besides, Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement of UAD), and Dr. Judel V Protacio introduced the international cooperation of their university.
This ceremony also was attended by faculty members and international office staff of both universities.

Dr. Muchlas, M.T. stated that “I am personally very glad and thankful to all of the teams from both CAPSU and UAD who have been very successful in activating the MoU which is Faculty Exchange Program for one semester. We also hope that the Faculty Exchange implementation can be successful so that it can inspire the other departments of both UAD and CAPSU to continue with many other joint programs in the future. In the Philippines, our active collaboration is with the University of Philippines Manila, University of Nueva Caceres, University of Saint Anthony, Tarlac Agriculture University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Saint Mary University, and Banque State University. We are happy that we could expand our network with CAPSU, and hopefully, we can explore the collaboration with CAPSU within these varieties of joint programs. We also hope that when the pandemic is over we can visit each other physically and conduct collaboration via physical mobility programs.”
UAD yearly accepts international students from various programs such as student exchanges from partner Universities under 2 + 2 (joint degree) programs, 3+1programs, various scholarship programs from the Indonesian government, scholarship programs from Muhammadiyah, and self-funded regular programs. Although the Covid-19 pandemic has lasted almost two years, UAD still continues to accept international students. The learning process is carried out online.
On Monday 18 September 2021, UAD officially held an annual orientation ceremony to welcome international students to study online. This event aims to introduce UAD, Indonesian culture, and Islamic teaching, the rights and obligations of international students while studying at UAD, the immigration process, introduce the academic process at UAD, and strengthen student relationships with teachers, and staff at UAD.
85 new international students are accepted to study at UAD 2021. They are; 10 students from Universiti MalaysiaTrengganu studied in the Mathematics and Mathematics Study Program; 75 students from China under the 2 + 2 and regular programs. 42 students from Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) consisting of 17 students have been studying at the Indonesian language and Literature, and 25 students have been studying at the Management, 28 students from Guangxi University of Foreign Languages (GUFL) studying at the Indonesian Language and Literature, and 2 students from the Hainan College of Foreign Studies have been studying at the Indonesian Language and Literature Program, 1 student has been studying Masters in Management from China and 2 students have been studying Masters in Education through the regular program. The total number of international students increased significantly compared to the number of students in 2020.
The event was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academic Affairs), Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), and Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affairs Division).
It was followed by the socialization of the rights and obligations of students while studying at UAD which was delivered by and Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affairs Division), Permit Regulations by representatives from the Yogyakarta Immigration Office, and Socialization of Manners and Courtesy in Indonesia, especially at UAD, delivered by representatives from the Institute for the Development of Islamic Studies (LPSI).
Before the event was closed, Mrs. Dyah Fitriani, S.E., M.M. (Head of Management) and Intan Rawit Sapanti, S.Pd., M.A (Head of Indonesian Language and Literature) provided academic guidance and got to know the students better.
Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of Foreign Cooperation Sector) said that “We are very grateful that during the pandemic we still get the trust from our foreign universities partners, it is proved by the increasing number of international students who study online at UAD. In the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of international students increased compared to the first year of the pandemic. Hopefully, after reopening the border for international students to go to Indonesia to study offline, UAD will be able to increase the interest of foreign students to study at UAD.”
UAD held the 3rd International Conference on Language Learning and Teaching from 24 to 26 August 2021. This conference was divided into parallel sessions, plenary speeches, keynote speakers’ speeches, journal publications, and forum discussions.
Opening this special event, two parallel sessions have been conducted this morning. The first session was conducted from 07.45-09.00 Indonesian time. The first parallel session was held in six breakout rooms of the zoom meeting. Six researchers presented their papers in each room.
They came from varied countries in Asia and Europe.
The second parallel session was started at 10.00 and finished at 12.00 Indonesian time. There are six papers also were presented by six scholars. The question and answer session was opened for each presenter to get the participants familiar with the topic discussed. About one hundred and fifty participants attended this annual meeting. Following the parallel session, at noon, The 3rd International Conference on Language Learning and Teaching of UAD and UMP was officially opened. The opening ceremony was opened by speeches delivered by Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD), and Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar bin Wan Yusoff (Vice-Chancellor / Chief Executive Officer of UMP). After that, Prof. Agnes Kukulska_Hulme (Professor of Learning Technology & Communication) presented “What’s New in Mobile Assisted Language Learning”. About one hundred and fifty participants participated in this annual meeting.
Parallel session 3 of The 3rd International Conference on Language Learning and Teaching of UAD and UMP was held on the second day. Five scholars presented their papers. Two of them are from UAD. Nur Fatimah, M.Pd. (Lecturer of English Education) presented “Online storytelling: Engaging students in skill, performance, and technical issues”. Ulaya Ahdiani, M.Hum. (Lecturer of English Literature), Sri Winiarti, S.T., M.Cs. (Lecturer of Informatics Engineering), and Andri Pranolo, S.Kom., M. Cs (Lecturer of Informatics Engineering) presented “Indonesian traditional building education through application development by applying deep learning concept”. Around one hundred participants have been attending this annual conference.
The parallel session 3 was followed by plenary session 2. To open this session, Drs. Akmal. M.Hum., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Lecturer of Master of English Education of UAD) presented “TPACK Framework: The Challenge for the 21st Century Teacher” The next session was Journal Publication on Briefing. Four integrated Indonesian and Malaysian journals representatives were invited to present information related to journal publication processes.
Finally, in the most-awaited session, a discussion with three experts in language learning and teaching was held. They are Marianna Pascal, Anuar MCAfee, and Leticia Wallace.
Opening this session, the moderator asked all of the keynotes speakers, “How did they learn their second language, and what are the best way to learn a foreign language based on their experiences”.
Following these interesting questions, all of the keynotes speakers enthusiastically discussed their experiences in learning and teaching languages.
