Seven UAD Students Take Part in a Student Mobility Program in Malaysia to Broadens Their Horizons and International Networks
Yogyakarta — Studying abroad offers students an opportunity to broaden their perspectives, discover new cultures, and build international networks. Seven students from Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) experienced this firsthand through the International Student Mobility program at Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), Malaysia, from August 10 to 24, 2026.
The students were Alya Nur Fadlillah and Fauzia Nur Thaharo from the Hadith Studies Study Program; Ahmad Lintar Wanjalu from the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program; and Lindhy Wahyu Maharani, Muhamad Ghifari Hadiansyah, Alya Mumtaza, and Kania Maila Faiza from the Psychology Study Program. Their participation offered an opportunity to gain academic experience at an international university while exploring Malaysian society and culture.
The program began with online preparatory sessions from August 10 to 14, 2026. This stage helped students prepare for their activities in Malaysia through program orientation, an introduction to UIS’s academic environment, and guidance for participating in the scheduled activities and academic discussions.
From August 15 to 24, 2026, the students took part in on-site activities at Universiti Islam Selangor. The program included academic activities, guest lectures, seminars, group discussions, and presentations. Through these activities, students had opportunities to exchange ideas, explore different learning perspectives, and deepen their understanding of academic life in an international setting.
The experience also provided opportunities to establish connections with Malaysia’s academic community. Beyond campus activities, the mobility program was designed to introduce students to local culture and society through educational activities and visits around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. This combination of academic and cultural experiences allowed students to learn not only from classroom materials but also through direct interaction with a new environment.
The Vice Dean for Student Affairs of UAD’s Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) encouraged the students to participate wholeheartedly in every activity while enjoying each stage of the experience. The students were also encouraged to make the most of the opportunity to learn new things, remain open to new experiences, and build meaningful relationships with the people they met throughout the program.
Beyond providing an international learning experience, the program is expected to inspire students to continue developing themselves and pursue opportunities on the global stage. FAI UAD hopes that more students will be motivated to participate in similar programs, broaden their horizons, and consider pursuing further studies abroad.
The participation of UAD students in the International Student Mobility Program at Universiti Islam Selangor represents an important step toward introducing students to the global academic environment. The knowledge and experiences gained are expected to support their academic journeys while inspiring other students to expand their learning experiences and build international networks.
