UAD Conducted A Launching and Preparation of The IISMA 2022 Program







2nd November 2021, The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia conducted a workshop on the Recognition of Credits Program of International Students Mobility Awards (IISMA).
This event is attended by four hundred lecturers and international office coordination of universities and higher education. Four keynote speakers were invited to present the IISMA program at their universities.
Officially opening this event, Paristiyanti Nurwardani, M.P. (the representative of The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia) delivered an opening remark. It was followed by presentations delivered by Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T.M. Sc., Ph.D. (Rector of Universitas Islam Indonesia), Rusydi Umar, Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academic Affairs of UAD), Dr. Rangga Almahendra, S.T. M.M. (the representative of UGM), and Diah Wihardini, B.Sc, (Hons)., M.Ed., Ph.D. (Universitas Bina Nusantara Global Director).
Due to the increasing number of IISMA awardees, the enthusiasm of each university sharply increases. It can be shown that all of the participants actively delivered respond and questions.
After signing MoU at the beginning of 2020 between Universitas Ahmad Dahlan and Capiz State University (CAPSU). It was followed by signing MoA between English Literature and English Education. Realizing this MoA, UAD and CAPSU scheduled a Faculty Members Exchange Program. Eight Lecturers of UAD are scheduled to teach at CAPSU, vice versa eight lecturers of CAPSU are scheduled to teach at UAD.
To officially open this program, UAD and CAPSU on 22nd October 2021 conducted an opening ceremony of Faculty Members Exchange. This ceremony was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of UAD), and Dr. Susan O. Dangan (Vice President for Academic Affairs of CAPSU).
Following the opening remarks, Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD), and Dr. Editha C. Alfon (President of CAPSU) delivered official speeches on ongoing programs and possible cooperation of both universities.
After that, Dr. Ani Susanti (Head of English Education) introduced the lecturers from English Education who will be teaching at CAPSU. They are Dr. Surono, M.Hum. dan Dr. Azwar Abbas, M.Hum. They will teach Semantics. Bambang Widi Pratolo, Ph.D., dan Dr. Ani Susanti will teach Theories and Principles in English Language Teaching.
It was followed by the introduction of the lecturers from English Literature who will teach at CAPSU. Hafiz Kurniawan, M.A. (Secretary of English Literature) introduced Ajar Pradika Ananta Tur, S.S. M.A., dan Lazuar Azmi Zulferdi, S.S. M.Appl.Ling. who will teach Structure of English, and Hana Farida, S.S. M.A. dan Resneri Daulay, S.S. M.A who will teach Literary Criticism.
CAPSU also scheduled eight lecturers to teach at UAD for one semester. Dr. Christy Agnas, Dr. Rossandrew Villaruel, Dr. Nedy Coldovero, and Dr. Leo Andrew Biclar are scheduled to teach English Literature. Dr. Christine Quenga, Dr. Luis Placido Lachicha, Dr. Joey Balatayo, and Dr. Hazel Joaquin are scheduled to teach at English Education.
Besides, Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement of UAD), and Dr. Judel V Protacio introduced the international cooperation of their university.
This ceremony also was attended by faculty members and international office staff of both universities.

Dr. Muchlas, M.T. stated that “I am personally very glad and thankful to all of the teams from both CAPSU and UAD who have been very successful in activating the MoU which is Faculty Exchange Program for one semester. We also hope that the Faculty Exchange implementation can be successful so that it can inspire the other departments of both UAD and CAPSU to continue with many other joint programs in the future. In the Philippines, our active collaboration is with the University of Philippines Manila, University of Nueva Caceres, University of Saint Anthony, Tarlac Agriculture University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Saint Mary University, and Banque State University. We are happy that we could expand our network with CAPSU, and hopefully, we can explore the collaboration with CAPSU within these varieties of joint programs. We also hope that when the pandemic is over we can visit each other physically and conduct collaboration via physical mobility programs.”
UAD yearly accepts international students from various programs such as student exchanges from partner Universities under 2 + 2 (joint degree) programs, 3+1programs, various scholarship programs from the Indonesian government, scholarship programs from Muhammadiyah, and self-funded regular programs. Although the Covid-19 pandemic has lasted almost two years, UAD still continues to accept international students. The learning process is carried out online.
On Monday 18 September 2021, UAD officially held an annual orientation ceremony to welcome international students to study online. This event aims to introduce UAD, Indonesian culture, and Islamic teaching, the rights and obligations of international students while studying at UAD, the immigration process, introduce the academic process at UAD, and strengthen student relationships with teachers, and staff at UAD.
85 new international students are accepted to study at UAD 2021. They are; 10 students from Universiti MalaysiaTrengganu studied in the Mathematics and Mathematics Study Program; 75 students from China under the 2 + 2 and regular programs. 42 students from Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) consisting of 17 students have been studying at the Indonesian language and Literature, and 25 students have been studying at the Management, 28 students from Guangxi University of Foreign Languages (GUFL) studying at the Indonesian Language and Literature, and 2 students from the Hainan College of Foreign Studies have been studying at the Indonesian Language and Literature Program, 1 student has been studying Masters in Management from China and 2 students have been studying Masters in Education through the regular program. The total number of international students increased significantly compared to the number of students in 2020.
The event was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academic Affairs), Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), and Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affairs Division).
It was followed by the socialization of the rights and obligations of students while studying at UAD which was delivered by and Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affairs Division), Permit Regulations by representatives from the Yogyakarta Immigration Office, and Socialization of Manners and Courtesy in Indonesia, especially at UAD, delivered by representatives from the Institute for the Development of Islamic Studies (LPSI).
Before the event was closed, Mrs. Dyah Fitriani, S.E., M.M. (Head of Management) and Intan Rawit Sapanti, S.Pd., M.A (Head of Indonesian Language and Literature) provided academic guidance and got to know the students better.
Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of Foreign Cooperation Sector) said that “We are very grateful that during the pandemic we still get the trust from our foreign universities partners, it is proved by the increasing number of international students who study online at UAD. In the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of international students increased compared to the first year of the pandemic. Hopefully, after reopening the border for international students to go to Indonesia to study offline, UAD will be able to increase the interest of foreign students to study at UAD.”
Yogyakarta, 21 September 2021, UAD under International Affairs Division cooperating with Islamic Studies Development Bureau (LPSI) conducted a briefing ceremony on Islamic and Muhammadiyah studies for students who got IISMA and ICT scholarship programs. This event was officially opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academics Affairs).
Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. mentioned that since the student is not only the ambassador of UAD but also representing Indonesian they have to leave a positive impression during their study abroad.
Following the opening speech, Drs. Parjiman, M.Ag. (Vice-rector for Islamic and Muhammadiyah Affairs) delivered speech on Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies. He advised that the students who stay abroad should keep practicing Islamic especially Muhammadiyah values.
Drs. H. Anhar Anshori, M.Si., Ph.D. (The Head of Islamic Studies Development Bureau), Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (The Head of International Affairs Division), IISMA and ICT’s coordinators, International Affairs Division staffs, and IISMA and ICT awardees attended this event.
Two students who have departed to Edinburgh and Latvia also attended this ceremony.
Drs. H. Anhar Anshori, M.Si., Ph.D. suggested the student keeping touch with the members of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch Association in their target countries.

(Lecturer of Management), Bagus Gumelar, S.E.M.M. (Lecturer of Management), Intan Rawit Sapanti, S.Pd. M.A. (Head of Indonesian Language, and Literature), and Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) represented by Feng Guanghuo (Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange), Qin Shuen (Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange), Li Zhenyi (Vice Dean of School of International Education), Liu Jianmin (Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Office), Zhou Tingting (the teacher in charge of overseas students of School of Economics), and Lu Aixuan (Indonesian interpreter and teacher of The Indonesian Department of International Education) discussed ongoing 2 + 2 and 3+1 programs.
UAD and GXUN have been cooperating for ten years. There are varied programs that have been conducted together such as students exchange, lecturers exchange, joint seminar, joint research, and so forth. Hundreds of GXUN students have been graduated from UAD under 2+2 and 3+1 programs. Furthermore, a lot of students from GXUN studied at UAD under Darmasiswa Program (Indonesian Government Scholarship). UAD students also have been graduated from GXUN.
Yogyakarta (3rd September 2021), UAD officially conducted a Pre-departure Ceremony for UAD students who were granted the International Credit Transfer (ICT) program held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. It is one of the Independent Study Activities of Freedom Campus Programs (MBKM). ICT is an online transfer credit scholarship to study at partner foreign universities for one semester.
This ceremony was officially opened by Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD). Besides that, Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academics Affairs), Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affairs Division), deans, heads of program studies, and all of the ICT awardee.
Fourteen students are granted ICT scholarships. They are: Desy Titin Ramadhani and Umi Lutfiyah are students of Industrial Engineering, Nuraini is a student of Chemical Engineering, and Irnanda Ummi Sofia Food Engineering is going to study at Universitas Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Malaysia. Dedek Ajeng Okta Triyana and Salsabilla Isnaini R are students of English Education. Shohihuzzihni, Aulia Salsabilla, Annisa Inas Ghaida Widadsari, and Rizky Alida are students of English Literature. Budi Shihabudin and Kulsum are students of Manajement are going to study at Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia. Nabilla Rana Dermawan is a student of Arabic Language and Literature is going to study at Universiti Malaya. Although it is held online, students are expected to get an experience like studying offline at their target universities.
Yogyakarta (3rd September 2021), UAD officially conducted a Pre-departure Ceremony for UAD students who granted the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia cooperated with the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). IISMA is one of the flagships of Independent Study Activities of Freedom Campus Program (MBKM) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. IISMA is one scholarship offered by the Indonesian government funding Indonesian student to attend mobility study in the best universities all over the world. The students take different courses from their program study at UAD when they study in a foreign university for one semester. Furthermore, they also learn the culture and attend practicum classes at the target university.
Officially opening this ceremony, Dr. Muchlas, M.T. (Rector of UAD) delivered speeches.

This event also was attended by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-rector of Academics Affairs), Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (The head of Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), Deans, Heads of Program Studies, Faculty members, and all of the students awarded IISMA program.
Four students of UAD are granted this scholarship, they are going to study in four famous European universities. Anggito Setiawan Ardiansyah is a student of Informatics Engineering going to study at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, Muhammad Arifin is a student of English Education going to study at University of Granada, Spain, Bagas Al Fajri is a student of English Literature going to study at University of Strathclyde, Scotland, and Afnan Sa’ud Hanifuddin is a student of Biology going to study at Daugavpils University, Latvia. All of them have attended the pre-departure ceremony conducted by both Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia and their target universities. They are scheduled to arrive at their target university at the beginning and last of September.
Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (The head of International Affairs Division) stated, “Alhamdulillah, four students of UAD are awarded in the prestigious program of Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, IISMA. It is an effort to continually improve the implementation of UAD’s international cooperation and improve student achievement at the international level even during the pandemic. Hopefully, in the future, UAD can increase the number of students who take part in international activities funded by government scholarships.
Yogyakarta (23 August 2021) International Affair Division of UAD conducted a closing ceremony for international students. This event is a yearly event strengthening friendship between local and international students of UAD. It also aims to exchange Indonesian and International culture through the students. It covers different themes every year. This year, although the pandemics have not been over yet. UAD conducted this yearly event. The Closing Ceremony & International Student Summit was chosen as the theme. This event socializes that during the pandemic UAD still conducts international programs. It keeps good cooperation among international students and alumni, and international students and local students.
The Closing Ceremony & International Students Summit was held through zoom meeting and the Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Youtube Channel on Saturday on August 21, 2021, at 10.00-12.00 WIB in collaboration with TV MU. This event is free in charge for the public.
Currently, UAD has 133 active international students spread across several faculties: Faculty of Education and Islamic Studies, Economics and Business, Law, Psychology, Public Health, Teacher Training and Education, Letters, Culture and Communication, Industrial Technology, and Masters in Chemical Engineering. The programs taken include Joint Degree (2+2), Credit Transfer System 3+1, regular scholarships from PP Muhammadiyah and UAD collaboration, and regular programs with independent fees. The students’ countries of origin are also quite varied, including South Korea, China, Thailand, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Libya.
On this occasion, the event was opened by Rusydi Umar, ST., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs), then it was followed by remarks from Dwi Santoso, Ph.D. (Head of
Ahmad Dahlan Global Engagement), and Ida Puspita, S.S, M.A.Res. (Head of International Affair Division).
In addition, performers from international students and alumni including Luo Haiyan (an alumnus of the Joint Degree 2+2 program from China), Obaidullah (an alumnus of the Darmasiswa Program from Bangladesh), and Nor Najihah Saad (an alumnus of the PP Muhammadiyah and UAD scholarship program from Thailand) delivered their experiences studying at UAD, Ahmed Shubair (an alumnus of the Darmasiswa Program from Palestine) read poetry, Ali Al Maktari (an alumnus from Yemen, Chemical Engineering through a Ministry of Education and Culture Scholarship) performed stand-up comedy, and Phang Zexin (an alumni program 3+1 from China) sang a Javanese song.
There are 37 students who graduated this year. 15 students from Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) China with the Joint Degree program (2+2) graduated from Management Study. 16 students from GXUN and Guangxi University of Foreign Languages (GUFL) under the Joint Degree program (2+2) graduated from the Indonesian Literature Study Program. 5 Thai students under the regular Muhammadiyah Scholarship Program graduated from The English Education (PBI). 1 Thai student under the regular Muhammadiyah Scholarship Program graduated from The Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI).
Ida Puspita, S.S., M.A., Res. said, “Alhamdulillah, during this pandemic, I am very grateful that the internationalization of UAD is still ongoing in its various programs, one of which is the presence of foreign students at UAD, although it is not easy to get foreign students during the pandemic. Next semester UAD has also received registrations for foreign students from the above routine programs from international partners in South Korea and China as well as regular full-time ones. In addition, UAD is also one of the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah universities which are given the opportunity to accept foreign students from Palestine with the PP Muhammadiyah scholarship scheme. Study programs are also encouraged to have Summer or Short Course programs to get foreign students as one aspect of the study program accreditation assessment. Currently, the short program for foreign students that have been running is from Physics Education and Mathematics Education with partners from the Philippines and Malaysia”.
Yogyakarta (29 April), Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (The head of International Cooperation Division of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan) shared the International Credit Transfer (ICT) and Indonesian International Students Mobility Awards (IISMA) Programs conducted by The Director of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of The Republic of Indonesia with several heads of departments.
In this chance Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. shared the requirements, selection procedures, and possible opportunities of UAD’s students to get these programs. Furthermore, the participants actively discussed the possible challenges faced by the students during the application process.
