Pre-Arrival Guide

Welcome to Universitas Ahmad Dahlan

Congratulations on your admission to Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD)!

Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity that requires careful planning and preparation. To help you prepare for your journey to Indonesia, UAD has developed this Pre-Arrival Guide, which provides essential information to ensure a smooth transition before your departure and upon your arrival.

This guide is designed to help international students understand the important steps to take before leaving their home country, from preparing travel documents and packing essential items to completing university registration and adapting to life in Yogyakarta.

We encourage you to read this guide carefully and complete all necessary preparations before your departure. Proper planning will help you begin your academic journey at UAD with confidence and peace of mind.

Before You Travel

Before departing for Indonesia, make sure that all administrative requirements have been completed. Confirm your flight schedule, check your travel documents, and inform the Global Engagement Office (GEO) of your travel itinerary if requested.

It is also recommended that you learn basic information about Indonesia, particularly the city of Yogyakarta, including its culture, climate, currency, and local customs. Understanding your new environment before arrival will make your transition easier and more enjoyable.

Prepare Your Documents

Before your departure, please ensure that you have prepared all required documents, including:

  • A valid passport.
  • An appropriate Indonesian visa or e-Visa.
  • Letter of Acceptance (LoA) issued by Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.
  • Flight ticket or travel itinerary.
  • Academic certificates and transcripts (if required).
  • Recent passport-sized photographs.
  • Printed and digital copies of all important documents.

Keep these documents in your carry-on luggage so they are easily accessible throughout your journey.

What to Bring

To make your stay in Indonesia more comfortable, we recommend bringing:

  • Personal and academic documents.
  • Prescription medications (if required).
  • Clothing suitable for Indonesia’s tropical climate.
  • A universal power adapter (if necessary).
  • Some cash for your initial expenses.
  • Essential electronic devices, such as a laptop and mobile phone, along with their chargers.

Avoid bringing prohibited or restricted items into Indonesia. Please check your airline’s baggage regulations before departure.

Upon Your Arrival in Indonesia

After arriving in Indonesia, you should:

  • Complete immigration and customs procedures.
  • Keep all travel documents in a safe place.
  • Travel to your accommodation in Yogyakarta.
  • Report your arrival to the Global Engagement Office (GEO) according to the instructions provided.
  • Complete the university registration process as scheduled.

Registration at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan

All international students are required to complete the registration process after arriving at UAD. This process includes document verification, academic registration, student identification, and the completion of other administrative requirements before attending classes.

Please make sure you bring all original documents during the registration process.

Preparing for Life in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is widely known as Indonesia’s “City of Students” because of its welcoming atmosphere, affordable cost of living, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant academic community.

Before your arrival, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with local transportation, accommodation options, Indonesian cuisine, healthcare services, banking facilities, communication services, and local customs. Understanding these aspects will help you adapt more quickly to your new environment.

Join the International Student Orientation

All international students are encouraged to participate in the International Student Orientation Program organized by the Global Engagement Office.

During the orientation, you will be introduced to the university, academic regulations, campus facilities, student services, Indonesian culture, and important information to help you begin your studies successfully. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet fellow international and Indonesian students and build new friendships.

We Look Forward to Welcoming You

We hope this Pre-Arrival Guide helps you prepare for your journey to Indonesia with confidence. Careful preparation before your departure will make your arrival, registration, and adjustment to life at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan much smoother.

The Global Engagement Office is committed to supporting you throughout your journey—from your first preparations until you become part of the UAD community.
