UAD Strengthens Global Collaboration, Welcomes British Ambassador to Discuss Energy and Climate
Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) continues to expand its international network through a visit from the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Dominic Jermey, on Tuesday, April 8, 2026. The meeting marked a strategic step in strengthening cooperation in education while addressing increasingly urgent global issues such as energy transition and climate change.
The Rector of UAD, Muchlas, emphasized the university’s commitment to building sustainable global partnerships. He noted that UAD has established collaborations with several universities in the United Kingdom, including University of Gloucestershire, University of Glasgow, and Anglia Ruskin University. These partnerships, which have been ongoing since 2017, cover student exchanges and higher education capacity development and are expected to continue growing in the future.
Beyond academic collaboration, UAD has also demonstrated concrete efforts in supporting environmental sustainability. Throughout 2025, the university successfully processed all organic waste into compost and animal feed, while reducing electricity consumption by 11 percent. In addition, the development of solar energy has been initiated as part of UAD’s transition toward clean energy usage on campus.
During the discussion, Dominic Jermey highlighted the real impacts of the global climate crisis, including in the United Kingdom. He pointed to the increasing occurrence of extreme weather events such as floods and droughts as clear indicators of climate change that can no longer be ignored. The UK has taken significant steps in its energy transition by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, including closing its last coal-fired power plant.
This visit served not only as a platform for educational diplomacy but also as an opportunity for cross-country dialogue in addressing global challenges. Through collaboration between Indonesia and the United Kingdom, it is hoped that stronger partnerships in research, education, and sustainability efforts can be established for a better future.
