UAD launches Global Lounge in Collaboration with Bank BPD DIY Syariah
Yogyakarta – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) officially opened the UAD Global Lounge on the 2nd Floor of Campus I-B on Thursday, August 21, 2025. This facility was established through a collaboration with Bank BPD DIY Syariah and is expected to serve as both a service center and an interaction space for international students.
The inauguration was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Rector of UAD, Prof. Dr. Muchlas, M.T., Secretary of the UAD Board of Trustees (BPH), Ir. Azman Latif, and representative of BPD DIY Syariah, Arif Wijayanto, S.E., M.M.
In his remarks, the Rector of UAD emphasized the importance of the Global Lounge as a symbol of the university’s openness to the international community.
“This Global Lounge unit is something we truly need. Almost every university I have visited abroad has a space like this, where international students can gather, share experiences, express concerns, and receive psychological, linguistic, cultural, and academic support,” explained Prof. Muchlas.
The UAD Global Lounge will be equipped with various facilities, including co-working spaces, language consultation services, and psychological support. It will also serve as a platform for international students to express themselves through student exchange programs and cultural activities.
The support from BPD DIY Syariah further strengthens the benefits of this facility. Representative of Bank BPD Syariah, Arif Wijayanto, emphasized that the collaboration goes beyond financial services, extending to research collaboration, Islamic studies, and financial literacy.
“With the Global Lounge, we can also learn a lot from international students about financial practices in their home countries. This collaboration is not only about finance but also about knowledge development,” he stated.
The establishment of the Global Lounge marks a new step for UAD in enhancing the comfort of international students while also strengthening the university’s reputation as a global education destination.
