Office of International Affairs (KKUI) of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) has once again made history by winning the Gold Medal at the 2024 Anugerah Diktisaintek! The award, presented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, recognizes UAD for the Best International Collaboration category on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Kemdiktisaintek Building in Jakarta.

This award is a testament to KKUI UAD dedication in fostering various strategic international partnerships that have a tangible impact on academic development, research, and innovation. This achievement also proves that the cross-border collaborations initiated by KKUI UAD have successfully contributed positively to higher education in Indonesia.

KKUI UAD remains committed to strengthening international cooperation, opening up new opportunities for collaboration, and creating a broader global impact. This accomplishment is not only a source of pride for UAD but also serves as motivation to continue advancing education in Indonesia.

UAD Astronomy Study Center Bring Out the Concept of a Unified Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)

Yogyakarta – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), through the Center for Astronomy Studies and Department of International Relations and Cooperation (LHKI), has taken strategic steps to promote the idea of a Unified Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT). This concept was presented before representatives of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Amphitharium, Muhammadiyah Museum.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including representatives from Palestine, namely Dr. Alhoucine Rhazoi (Director of OIC Department of Cultural Affairs), Mr. Adeeb Saleem (OIC Department of Palestine Affairs), Mr. Mutasem Taem (Secretary of the Supreme Committee for Jerusalem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Institute, Al-Quds University), Dr. Yasmi Adriyanyah (OIC Dialogue and Outreach, Department of Political Affairs), Mr. Kayed al-Meary (Co-Founder of Witness-Syahid Center for Citizens’ Rights and Social Development), Tamara AlMajali (Growth & QA Adviser, Witness-Syahid Center for Citizens’ Rights and Social Development), and Ms. Tasmim M.S. Zourob (Representative of Palestinian youth/refugees).

From UAD, the attendees included academics and Muhammadiyah figures such as Muhammad Sayuti, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. (Dean of FKIP UAD), Dr. Arif Rahman, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Dean of FAI UAD), Yazida Ichsan, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Head of PAI Study Program), Affan Kurniawan, S.T., M.T. (Head of Muhammadiyah Museum), Yudhiakto Pramudya (Head of the UAD Center for Astronomy Studies), Ida Puspita, M.A. Res. (LHKI Team), Ulaya Ahdiani, S.Hum., M.Hum. (Head of the Office of International Affairs and Cooperation UAD), Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Head of the Foreign Cooperation Division UAD), and the Chair of the Muhammadiyah Tarjih Center Team.

During the event, UAD explained the significance of the Unified Global Hijri Calendar as a solution to unify Muslims in determining the timing of worship. The Head of the UAD Center for Astronomy Studies, Yudhiakto Pramudya, stated that this initiative aims to create harmony and consensus in determining the beginning of the Hijri months, which has long been a challenge in the Islamic world.

Through this activity, UAD and Muhammadiyah once again demonstrated their strong commitment to advancing Islamic civilization through international collaboration. This step is expected to become an important milestone in the journey towards an agreed-upon, single, and universal Hijri Calendar.

International Day 2024 at UAD: Harmony in Diversity!

Yogyakarta – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), through its Office of International Affairs (KKUI), successfully held the International Day 2024 on Saturday (14/12). This annual event, themed Harmony in Diversity, served as a spectacular stage to celebrate the richness of global cultures and showcase student innovations.

Held grandly at the Hall of Campus 4 UAD, the event was a colorful display of cultural diversity, highlighted by 15 cultural booths. These booths were hosted by international students representing 14 countries, along with one special booth showcasing Indonesia. Each booth offered a unique experience, ranging from cultural insights and traditional attire to authentic cuisine that tempted every visitor.

More than just an exhibition, International Day 2024 featured an array of exciting activities, including mesmerizing art performances, cultural showcases, and engaging competitions involving both local and international students. The lively atmosphere was further enhanced by an international food bazaar, which drew crowds throughout the event.

International Day 2024 was not only about culture but also about expanding the global perspectives of UAD students. With the spirit of togetherness fostered during the event, it became a vivid reminder of how diversity can serve as a strength in building a more inclusive world.

Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) Yogyakarta Joins the Indonesia 2024 Higher Education Exhibition in Thailand

Yala, Thailand – Universitas Ahmad Dahlaln (UAD) Yogyakarta once again plays a role in strengthening international relations, particularly in the field of education, by participating in the Indonesia 2024 Higher Education Exhibition in Thailand. The exhibition, held at Yala Rajabhat University, Yala, on December 11-12, 2024, was an initiative of the Indonesian Consulate Songkhla and was attended by 37 universities from across Indonesia.

For two days, the enthusiasm of thousands of Thai students was evident at the exhibition. They visited university stands to gather information about higher education in Indonesia. In this event, the UAD delegation introduced UAD premier programs, including various fully-funded and partial scholarships for international students.

UAD presence at the Indonesia Higher Education Exhibition is a concrete proof of the university’s commitment to providing quality education for international students, especially from Thailand, and a strategic step in developing a global collaboration network.

Professor Indalecio Shares Fresh Perspectives in UAD Cross-Cultural Understanding Class

Yogyakarta, December 4, 2024 – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) continues to strengthen its globally-oriented academic atmosphere by inviting Prof. Indalecio from the Universidad de Granada, Spain, as a guest lecturer. His presence became a highlight in the Cross-Cultural Understanding class under the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Literature, Culture, and Communication at UAD.

The class transformed into a gateway to the golden age of Andalusia, Spain, enriched by Prof. Indalecio’s captivating historical narratives. He took students on a journey through Andalusia’s legacy as a symbol of cross-cultural harmony, a place where knowledge, art, and culture flourished for centuries.

In his lecture, Prof. Indalecio delved into the significant contributions of Muslim scholars and the unique collaboration between Islamic, Christian, and Jewish civilizations that shaped the identity of Andalusia. With his dynamic delivery, he connected Andalusia’s values of tolerance to the challenges of cultural diversity in the modern era, fostering lively and insightful discussions in the class.

Students were not just passive listeners but were actively involved in practical simulations to grasp the principles of unity and their applications in cross-cultural communication. His teaching method, which combined historical storytelling, interactive discussions, and simulations, successfully sparked enthusiasm among the students.

Prof. Indalecio’s visit is part of UAD’s efforts to provide international perspectives to its students. Through inspiring stories about Andalusia, the lecture not only enriched their academic knowledge but also nurtured a spirit of tolerance and respect for diversity, equipping the younger generation to build a more harmonious world.

It is with great pride that that I can announce the Indonesian Higher Education Leadership Development (iHiLead) project has been evaluated with the highest possible rating. The project led by David Dawson (PhD, FCIPD, SHEA), Jan Myers, Gideon Capie, and Annabelle Miles from the University of Gloucestershire started in 2021 with the objective of raising the capacity for leadership and governance of HEIs in Indonesia.

Rated as “Very Good” by the Erasmus+ funding agency, the project has provided:

UAD Welcomed Representatives from Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia

Yogyakarta, November 26, 2024 — Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) welcomed a delegation from the Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australia, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation. The ACU delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Abid Khan (Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise), alongside Prof. Dr. Michael Champion, Prof. Dr. Richard Colledge, Dr. Michelle Lopez, and Dr. George Iwan Marantika, was warmly received by the leadership, faculty, and staff of UAD.

Present at the meeting were the Rector of UAD, Prof. Muchlas, M.T., accompanied by the Vice Rectors: Dr. Nur Kholis, S.Ag., M.Ag. (for Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah Affairs), Prof. Ir. Sunardi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (for Academic Affairs), Dr. Norma Sari, S.H., M.Hum. (for Human Resources), Dr. Gatot Sugiharto, S.H., M.H. (for Student Affairs and Alumni), and the Head of the International Cooperation Division, Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential collaboration in research and student mobility programs. In his opening remarks, Prof. Muchlas expressed hope that this cooperation would open up opportunities for the internationalization of education at UAD.

During the discussion session, UAD introduced its leading academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. These programs are expected to attract interest in research collaboration and student exchange between the two universities. “We believe this partnership will bring great benefits, especially in enhancing the global competitiveness of both our students and faculty,” said Dr. Gatot Sugiharto.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir from UAD to the ACU delegation as a symbol of friendship. The delegation was also invited to visit the Muhammadiyah Museum to learn more about the history and vision of UAD as a university grounded in modern Islamic values. With this spirit of collaboration, it is hoped that the relationship between UAD and ACU will continue to grow stronger and produce positive impacts for both institutions.

UAD Yogyakarta Participates in Education Fair in Timor-Leste, Attracting Thousands of Students to Study in Indonesia

Dili, Timor-Leste – Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta once again demonstrated its role in strengthening international relations, particularly in education, by participating in the 2024 Indonesian Higher Education Fair in Timor-Leste. Held at the Indonesian Cultural Center in Dili from October 24–26, 2024, this event was organized by the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Dili and featured 60 universities from across Indonesia.

Over the three-day event, thousands of Timorese students eagerly explored the university booths to learn about higher education opportunities in Indonesia. The UAD delegation, led by Head of International Cooperation, Afit Istiandaru, S.Pd., M.Pd., along with Head of Marketing and Admissions, Agungbudiprabowo, S.Pd., M.Pd., and staff member from the Office of International Affairs, Farhan Ichsan Utama, S.Pd., introduced UAD’s flagship programs, including a range of fully funded and partial scholarships for international students.

This promotional effort yielded impressive results, with 902 students expressing interest and signing up at UAD during the fair, reflecting the strong enthusiasm of Timorese youth to pursue studies in Indonesia. Beyond the exhibition booth, UAD also held a presentation session attended by dozens of students, providing deeper insights into the study programs, campus facilities, and scholarship opportunities offered by UAD.

As a symbol of friendship, UAD donated traditional Yogyakarta clothing to the Indonesian Cultural Center in Timor-Leste. Through this initiative, UAD hopes to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, not only in education but also in culture.

OIA UAD Holds Immersion Program: UAD International Students Experience Indonesia’s Warmth and Uniqueness

Yogyakarta, October 31, 2024 – Office International Affairs at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (OIA UAD) successfully organized an Immersion Program attended by 59 new international students from various countries, including Egypt, Kenya, China, South Korea, Madagascar, Thailand, Tajikistan, Yemen, and Timor Leste. Held in Pulesari Tourism Village, Sleman, DIY, the event offered a unique experience and an opportunity to foster cross-national friendships.

The program aimed to help students get to know each other and nurture a sense of togetherness and mutual cooperation. In addition to enjoying the local nature and culture, they also tried a variety of new experiences. A highlight of the program was tasting Snakefruit, a first-time experience met with enthusiasm by the students.

This program serves as an initial step for students to get to know Indonesia and feel the warmth of togetherness in their new environment.
